Iowa/ Register Debate: Keyes IN, Kucinich OUT?
SORRY FOR THE POOR QUALITY OF THIS RECORDING - MY PHONE WAS NOT WORKING WELL AND THE VOLUME WAS NOT SET HIGH ENOUGH
Recording of my phone call to the newspaper in Iowa, the Des Moines Register, which organized the debates last week in Iowa. I wanted to know how they decided which candidates would be allowed in to the debates and which be excluded Alan Keyes was allowed into the Republican debate (surprisingly
); and Dennis Kucinich was excluded from the Democratic Debate.
There were a set of 5 criteria for getting into the debates:
Filing with the FEC
Announcing the candidacy for president
a campaign office
a campaign staffer
polling at least 1%
