The November 28 episode of The Colbert Report provided a clip with which I could finally answer a subscriber question. I also pose a couple interesting questions at the end for Colbert fans and non-Colbert fans alike
You can see the full November 28 edition of "The Word" from which I took the clip I use in my video on the Comedy Central website at: http://www.comedycentral.com/motherload/index.jhtml?ml_video=78729

Too many of you people are taking it literally. Within the scope of the CHARACTER environment. LV has it bang on in saying that he is aware, yet psychologically "impervious" to it's mockery, a perfect satire of Bill-O' and his refusal to accept the criticism of others. Q.E.D.

LiberalViewer is ... ( 1 month ago by mayte919)
LiberalViewer is asking if the characters realizes the word is mocking him, yet people that think this question is invalid say that Colbert himself wrote. LV isn't talking about Colbert himself, he's talking about the character. As the post two below mentions, he is "psychologically impervious" to any criticism towards him, just like Bill-O. The question is simply an analysis of Stephen's character, and now it makes the Word funnier know that his CHARACTER is aware.

He is aware, because in an interview with Readers Digest, he said the his caracter on the show is scripted and false but he's an exaggeration of his own flaws.
Stephen Colbert ... ( 4 weeks ago by luftbalons99)
Stephen Colbert portrays the character Stephen Colbert on The Colbert Report, he isn't actually portraying himself on the show. The real Stephen Colbert knows that it's mocking the character Stephen Colbert on the show, but the question is if the character Stephen Colbert knows it. Please, get your facts straight before calling someone else stupid.

So would that make Apple the Judaism of computers or something, if Microsoft is Catholicism? Yes, I know that's a dumb question.
I think we can all ... ( 2 weeks ago by misterdix)
I think we can all agree that the real Colbert will do anything at any time, break any rule or change any bit at any moment to make a segment funnier. I don't think the character would allow a segment to continually mock him as the basis for the way it operates, but I'm sure the real colbert isn't above addressing the word box and breaking that wall if he thinks the joke will work. I say both dummies.

what i don't get is why this is even a discussion topic.. isn't that the whole point of the joke during "the word" segment??? ie the word contradicting and making fun of what Colbert is saying??? IF it isn't then ummm.. i guess i didn't get it... by the way love your stuff LiberalViewer..
by the way just ... ( 2 weeks ago by jube000)
by the way just adding to my comment below.. i think colbert is aware of what the word because #1 it is part of the show, #2 he pauses after the word comments are displayed, as if almost emphasizing, i think, that that is the funny part of that particular joke.. i can't remember the particular word for that. My vocabulary is a very rusty.

the real stephen colbert knows he is being mocked but the character doesnt cause he portrays a close minded political pundit
There was the time ... ( 1 week ago by forrenz)
There was the time where he was talking about feminism or some such thing, and right after that ended, he did a Word for just the men watching, and the Word Box asked "Me Too?" and Stephen said "Yeah, you can stay"...
So, he knows that its there, and that it adds to what he's saying, but doesn't really read it until something pops up when he doesn't give it a chance to? Otherwise, I'd say they're totally buddies, though the Word is an "intermitant (sic?) sidekick"

i'm pretty sure the whole show is scripted and steven colbert probably agrees more with what the word is saying than what HE is actually saying. are you dumb? of course he knows it's there, he probably writes most of that shit himself

well obviously stephen colbert knows its there. but as for the character, i dont know. who cares?

It's called deadpan comedy, he is liberal and plays the part of a conservative giving out lame excuses that the government uses in a mocking way. just wiki deadpan and Colbert's wiki Funny stuff I love it.

Colbert changes in every episode, his views to fit the joke. but in the end, he's always calling politicians BS out while using words that seem like he's on their side, but everybody knows he's not.
