Clip 2 of video by CERN regarding the LHC (Large Hadron Collider) replacing the LEP (Large Electron Positron collider). Video date- 1998. Video source- http://cdsweb.cern.ch/collection/Video%20Movies
The detector they refer to at the beginning of the clip is more than likely the ATLAS experiment (A Toroidal LHC ApparatuS) as this is the largest and most well known detector proposed.

ok, who would make that decision? scientists try to advance there field, i think they have worthy goals and tech spin offs. should they stop trying to advance our knowledge? the military and arms companies arent going to stop asking for money...if politicians still fund them we will end up with no science and a lot of arms. if you believe that development aid--or stopping exploitation--is important then make that case and i would support that over most other things. we dont have that choice.

Lol! I can understand that somebody think it is a waste of money. But..... thinking it's better to spend it on space research!!! Do you even know what is the purpose of the LHC? Do you even know what are the technologies that have been already released to public thanks to this kind of research?

Love how it Scientists always do all this stuff. I remember the last time something with this much contraversy was tested .. The results can best be seen at Hiroshima .. I am talking about the Nuke Man was that a great step for mankind .. WHAT A BUNCH OF BULLSHIT !!! Thanks to that, governments would rather nuke a country if it wasnt for all the contraversy that they would stur up .. Cant wait to see what this test is gonna create .. My guess is Nuke 2.0 new and improved now even more deadly..

MORE LHC QUESTIONS RAISED: Two more physicists saying to run the LHC at lower energy levels until more research is done....they are Holger B. Nielsen, Masao Ninomiya: Test of Influence from Future in Large Hadron Collider; A Proposal Will the LHC's Future Cancel Out Its Past? So more "WACKOS" apparently who are experts in the field think the LHC should be re-thought first. Their conclusion is running the LHC at high intensity is not recommended. MORE RESEARCH HAS TO BE DONE FIRST.
