If you actually read my comments properly and don't jump to stupid conclusions, you will see that all i was saying is we should all be proud to be British. English Welsh and Scottish soldiers died fighting in wars on Britains side, for example the soldiers in the film Zulu were from a Welsh regiment. And anyway it's not much to brag about that it took you 700 years to create your 'dream' of a united Britain, until that time England was only half an island

24th Foot South Warwickshire Regiment became South Wales Borderers in 1881. Rorke's Drift was 1879.Of 11 V.Cs 7 were awarded to Englishmen,2 to Welshmen,1 to an Irishman and 1 to a Swiss.(And the brilliant colour sergeant was English too)

I would have thought that SEVEN of the eleven V.Cs would point to the fact that those Englishmen were very much "in the direct line of battle." Privates Henry Hook,Frederick Hitch,William Jones,and Corporal William Allen were not likely to be directing others from a distance.True, the officers commanding were English,but no one was safe at Rorke's Drift.
