This song was originally composed and sung by Fadhili Williams. Makeba was invited for independence celebrations in the '60s at Nairobi City Hall. Williams curtain-raised for her with this song. After the concert, Makeba was so enthralled by the song that she asked Williams to write down the words for her that night. Of course, those days, Williams said he wasn't aware of copy right issues. Makeba came to the U.S., made the song popular and the rest is history. But that is Williams song.
