I agree. Hahn is great technically but often lacks a sort of passionate flare. The modern virtuosi don't have that certain flare of the golden era ones. Personally, I blame synthetic strings for part of it. Darn things hold so much back! X_X It's sad we lost Vengerov too which, love him or hate him, he could play well. I see some potential in Chloe Hanslip but I don't know if she'll make it. She plays quite well though and her rendition of Godard is amazing.

Funny story: At the ...( 2 weeks ago by lvsiii)
Funny story: At the close of WWII Russian general Zhukov and American general O. Bradley met outside Berlin. To celebrate, Zhukov first entertained Bradley. He had Bolshoi Ballerinas and a celebrated Russian pianist flown in for the occasion. It was grand. The caviar, vodka and salmon abounded. "That was great!" Bradley commented at the conclusion. "Who were those marvelous dancers?" he asked.
"Oh, just some Red Army regulars" was Zhukov's reply.
Next it was General Bradley's turn.

When General Bradley's turn rolled around the feast was magnificent steaks, potatoes and other Americana fare. After the meal, pfc Heifetz provided the entertainment. Jascha played this piece for the Russians. Zhukov was moved to tears. "Who is this amazing violinist?" he asked.
"Oh, him, he's just a private, first class fiddler," General Bradley replied. It was a funny episode. Jascha wasn't really in the service, but he happened to be there performing for the servicemen in Europe at the time.

With Hahn its like with most of these modern prodigies virtuosos. Technically they are next to perfect, but that alone doesnt make for good music - thats the whole point. Strange that people dont seem to understand this anymore. What is needed, is to educate people more in musicality than in technique! And what a peerless example is given here by Heifetz - amazing! He comes to the studio and just pulls it off in one take.
