BAY AREA BACKSTAGE MichaelMagic presents: an interview with IN FLAMES' Anders Friden
On Monday (May 19th 2008) metal madness hit the Bay Area as the third annual Gigantour came to town-- this year's lineup featured veteran metal gods Megadeth, the Swedish metal band In Flames, melodic-death metal thrashers Children Of Bodom, deathcore pioneers Job For A Cowboy, and the stoner-doom
metal band High On Fire. After interviewing the Bodom "Booze Brothers" (Alexi Laiho and Janne Warman), the Bay Area Backstage crew caught up with In Flames front-man Anders Friden for an exclusive on-location interview at the San Jose State University event center. During the interview Anders disc
ussed the recording process for In Flames' latest album "A Sense of Purpose", life on the road, and the sacrifices that come along with being a musician. Anders was a super nice Swede and I'm glad that I got to interview him! /m/ Nikki Law, Bay Area Backstage

Technically, Stromblad would be the king of melodic death metal; he created In Flames. (In Flames was what made the genre what it is even though they weren't the first melodeath band, imo)

In Flames didn't make Melodic Death Metal. I used to think that too, until I did some research. There are several Melodic Death Metal bands that started it, such as Eucharist, At The Gates, Carcass, Dark Tranquillity, Sentenced, Unanimated... In Flames is probably responsible for the Gothenburg sound. But Jesper Stromblad definitely wasn't the first musician to play Melodic Death Metal. In Flames is a big influence on the genre and one of the father bands of Melodic Death, but they weren't first

Jesper Stromblad is one of the greatest melodist in melodic death metal, that's the fucking true). yeah, the first MDM were like at the gates, carcass and others, but they had only way of start of MDM, but the bands like In Flames, Dark Tranquillity and others, after them this type of music had a straight name - melodic death metal :)
