The Ides of March this year saw the Wild Wild West Philly Alley Cat (or Alleycat, if you prefer). Starting a languid 45 minutes late at historic Clark Park, Ricky threw down the gauntlet and team Tofurky took took to the wild wild streets of West Philly. This ride never went east of the Schuylkill. Nobody visited all of the checkpoints. Thankfully nobody was killed or injured, and reportedly, only one person was shot in the ass with a BB gun. The after party seemed to generate a few casualties though, but that's another story. I'll post a video of the after party when I have time.
The ride was a benefit for the Tender Bridge youth program. Check out www.tenderbridge.org. Check out West Philly landmarks including the Woodlands Cemetery (standing in for Boot Hill, I presume), West Philadelphia tool library, the Drexel Dragon, Trophy Bikes, Spiral Q Puppet Theatre, Penn's
Bio Pond (voted Philadelphia's best spot for outdoor sex on the years it beat Judy Garland Park in the City Paper poll), West Philly's printmaking collective, Neighborhood Bike Works, St. Mary's Episcopal Church of Hamilton Village, Penn's "dueling tampons," World Cafe Live, West Philly's innovative
high line freight train overpass, Tenderbridge HQ and the Philadelphia Zoo. The afterparty was at a palatial warehouse donated to the cause by a generous local couple. Team Tofurky actually visited several more checkpoints, but were somewhat lackadaisical about the whole thing and didn't make the
top tandem spot. My sincere apologies, but the Bilenky couldn't be bumbarzled--last person that tried that stripped out the Ti bolts. So much for aerospace technology. Gaze in wonder as Team Tofurky run up the steps up onto the Walnut street bridge. Any of the rest of you take that shortcut to

Hmm... I must admit I didn't give that any thought, Michaldabek, and this is the first one I took part in. A brief look at the internet showed that both versions are used for this kind of bike race. Seems like the kind of event that would be hard to give an official or agreed upon name to.

Thanks for watching, Brian. I didn't put it there. I suspect that YouTube does it automatically. I always enter the location when I post a video, and expected that something like this would eventually happen. I did put the address 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue as the location for ome of my friends doing something embarrassing, but it doesn't show up on Google Earth there. Clearly there's someone doing some editing...

nice video/i live in west philly and was there that day -- why not mention the wherehouse where you all ended up that night?anyway,i wonder why it is supposed adults need to be so cliquish,west philly anarchists all look the same,smell the same and sprout the same jargon,guess it's easier than being an individual,huh?still,liked the video/peace

Thanks for watching, Paulianna. Questions! I'll try: Warehouse owners are thanked in afterparty vid. I respect their privacy. I'll add shoutout here. Cliques=evolved survival behavior. To fight this one must live in discomfort. Bravo to you if you take that path. With respect, if you think all W-P @s look the same, there are more W-P @s than you think! Smell? mmm! Jargon, etc? annoying, yes, but I urge you to encourage any non-violent critiques rather than berate people who are trying.

Thanks for watching SuckkerFree. So, is your point there are no gay black people, there are no black people who like Will Smith or that white people don't belong in West Philly? Or all three? I there's a cultural point to this bike race I think it was a message to white hipster types that West Philly is cool, i.e. the universe doesn't revolve around Northern Liberties. Anyway, let's all try to get along.
