Actually, I wouldn't say a majority of asian composer does that. This trait is probobally what made Hisaishi so famous. And the others just fellows.

I am not Japanese, I am actually from Taiwan. In Taiwan, the most popular joe hisaishi pieces are from the animation with Miyazake. Sadly, eventhough those music are extremely popular, Joe Hisaishi is not usually known by the common people. Most Japanese that I talked to know Joe Hisaishi. So I suppose he has to be famous in Japan.

Thanks for the answer:-) I am glad with that. Because a 'famous' japanese harp player here in the Netherlands didn't know of the name Joe Hisaishi. Her name is Nasumi Nagasawa. So i was suprised and a little bit disappointed. Because i thought such good composer has to be famous. So thanks again for the answer;)

To Johnny123456789x. I would also like to point out that within what you call European music, there is also plenty of variation according to the country they originate. For instance there is something very Russian about Rachmaninov or French about Ravel. Each of these composers are inspired by folk tunes found only in their country. Joe is doing the same

Takeshi movies are famous in EU; as far as i know, only a few stateside know him. While many more know of Miyazaki animation, hence would know of Joe because of his assn. with Ghibli/Miyazaki.
