WTF was that? I'm watching this great video about hams and quads and suddenly thing' is inserted into the video? whoahhhh. Anyway, anyone know what the correct weight is for working on front and back. Someone told me it was two to one on weight. In other words, lets say 100 lbs. for quads and 50 lbs. for hams? Does that sound right?
I've always used a ... ( 1 month ago by StandFirm)
I've always used a standard of 3:2 for a ratio of Quads/Hams... but not squats and leg curls, because that is a compound vs. a single-joint movement. Probably leg extensions and lying leg curl is better.

I think the pig-person is a sculpture from a show some years ago. I remember seeing it before. It's not real, obviously. The artist had similar sculptures in the show, I think.

NASM suggests a 65% ... ( 1 month ago by Roshibear)
NASM suggests a 65% ratio of hams to quads which is basically StandFirm's 3:2 suggestion. However many sport scientists suggest 80% ratio for athletes. I would use the leg extension machine and leg curl machine to test for strength and address muscle imbalances only and rely on complex/compound movements for training. And by the way a squat is a complex movement (more than one joint or muscle group involved in the movement), not a compound exercise (more than one movement in the exercise).
It's better not to ... ( 1 month ago by Roshibear)
It's better not to them at all. If you must use them so so only under the instruction of a qualified trainer for the purpose of addressing muscle imbalances between the quads and hams. Otherwise you'll only end up doing more harm than good. More people injure themselves on machines compared to free weights, but this doesn't even address the fact that everyday people are using machines which further throw their body into greater imbalance...
