Like I posted before, here in Canada, last month for a busted foot-- swipe my card, see doctor, xrayed, re-examined, prescription for swelling, all ok. Go home. No papers, no premiums. All in "1 HOUR". Long waits are if you go to the hospital emergency room for a cough, instead of a real emergency. Taxes are high, sure. But down in the U.S., prisoners are enjoying free health care at taxpayers expenses!! Each province here is trying to make some problems and waits better. I thank God we have it.

When I got ill, my husband paid 32%of his paycheck for coverage through his employer. We had a $5,000.00 ded.When the self-funded plan found out I had a chronic disease, they fired my huband because my genetic illness caused rates for everyone else he work w/ to go up and the insur. company stopped apying for items they alreay agreed to pay for. After 90 days his employyer asked him back, saying they would now employ him becasue they would not have to cover my pre-ex. condition. Only in the USA!

Scandinavia WAS homogenic 40 YEARS AGO! In 20 years Scandinavians will be a minority in Scandinavia. Muslim majority in 30 years!! The only homogenic country in Europe is Iceland! Why do Americans have this racist view that we don't commit ethnic suicide trough immigration ?? Yes most of us are blond and have blue eyes, but that don't make us Nazis. The Norwegians where at war with the Nazis from April 9. 1940. Without the Norwegian merchant fleet Britain would have starved in 1941!

bpartoens, any resident here in Canada would say that is criminal what happened to you 2! Again, we just swipe our cards at the doctor, hospital, xray, MRI, etc... all free. Genetic diseases, disorders, aquired illnesses, old age, birth... nothing is halted in coverage here. We pay for our own prescription/dental/vision but you can get coverage by benefits. It's got a few bugs in the system, but me and my children are covered always. Why aren't more Americans outraged about stories like yours?!

Why can't we force these young people to pay for insurance - it's probably not that they can't afford it. Shit, none of them looked destitute. Why can't we have a pay-it-forward system ala social security for BASIC medial coverage - at least for people 18 and younger.

Wow, a great example of how group insurance can do more harm than good. I am an agent and I hear this all the time. That's one reason I don't sell group plans. If we all had individual policies taken out when we were not sick, this would not happen. I like McCain's plan of a tax credit to purchase you own policy. I hate hearing stories like yours bpartoens. Hope things get better.

I've said that a few times here. Why not 'basic' coverage for all under 18? Children for cyring out loud!!! Due to our system here in Canada, nobody ever worries about coverage for our children. My daughter twisted her ankle, and xray, doctor visits, examinations, all swipe of health card. It is frustrating to try to figure out why NO American administration even tries to pass such a simple system at least for the children. We can't understand it.

The Canadian system generally works well. My story...
Burst appendix,...on operating table within an hour of showing up in emergency. Operated on at midnight by head of surgery. 5 days in a ward bed recovering on morphine and antibiotics, sharing a room with an interesting male patient. Two weeks later had 6 staples removed. Scar disappeared within a year. No problems. My total cost was $150 for antibiotics for the month after hospital care.

It is unbelievable how people in the USA live. Here in Europe we take universal health care as granted. I wouldn-t live in a country like the US. I hope Americans will improve their country in the future. They do not deserve such a society.

Wow, mine, supplied by my employer (medical) doesn't suck at all. It paid 100% of the costs for my laparascopic appendectomy when my appendix ruptured (and all associated costs -- 7-day hospital stay, etc.).
I hope we never get socialized health care. I pay very low premiums for the very best (most paid by my employer). It's gonna cost us big time in taxes if we ever get a national plan, with inferior services no less (like the European countries).

Shouldn't you have health insurance if you're a citizen of this supposed GREATEST country in the world?Nah,let's let them die in the streets...I know some of you fools are gonna say that anyone who wants help can get it in this country but that's not the case...try going to the county hospital and getting an appointment within the next few months...if you got cancer or heart problems then those few mths are all it will take to kill you...

Socialistic "style" is NOT socialism in a democracy. What is wrong with people? At any rate, people who use that defence are grabbing at straws pulled from crap heaps since they don't want to admit the "for profit" style kills the poor or middle class. Yes in Canada we have "socialistic style"... but from a cough to triple bypass, we pay nothing but swipe a health card. And if the wait is too long, we can arrange to have our system pay for it in the U.S. anyway! So I like this style better...
