Terrific band with great syncopated jazzy sound, horn backup, excellent lead guitar with Denny Diaz, distinctive singing, characterized by angry, disenchanted lyrics of generalized hostility to everything established. But sound quality of this studio band is so-so (much better off the original LP). Their best song = Bodhissatva. Their earlier stuff was better than their laid-back later stuff in my opinion.

Why does this riff remind me of tapping kegs at school. Whatever about telling the diff between good music and bad,Steely leaves U with no choice. A very powerful unit that it appears is only getting much better.

that "cheeky solo" was played by jeff "skunk" baxter who later went on to play with the doobie brothers after steely dan wanted to stop touring. he also worked at manny's music store in new york where jimi hendrix used to buy all of his gear. he was a member of the hendrix band "jimi james and the blue flames". this song is so amazing, after all these years. i wonder who the female back up singers are.....

I caught Steely Dan last night (7.26) outdoors at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley, CA. What a thrill to finally seem them perform live after following them since 1973. It was Fagen, Becker and eight other extremely talented musicians. Partial set list: The Royal Scam, Kid Charlemagne, Peg, Jose, Aja, Hey Nineteen, The Glamour Profession, FM, Gaucho, Do it Again (Encore). Tour ends August 24th in Saratoga, CA. Catch'em if you can.
