On November 30, 2006 neurosurgeons on the medical staff of Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas(PHD) will perform in a live web cast, a brain tumor resection case within the hospital's new Nancy B. Hamon intra-operative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) neurosurgical suite. J. Michael Desaloms, M.D. and Richard L. Weiner, M.D. will perform the surgery.
The state-of-the-art operating room, dedicated to precision and real-time imaging during brain surgery, is among the first of its kind in the world. On August 31, 2006, Dr. Desaloms performed the first U.S. surgical case using BrainSUITE technology in this new operating room.
This breakthrough us
e of advanced computerized equipment provides neurosurgeons access to all-important clinical data about a patient's brain condition during surgery. The increased level of information — converging in real time — can assist in improving the precision and accuracy of procedures, which may reduce th
e need for repeat surgeries.
