The E38 had the emergency break on the floor. It looks like a clutch from that angle but it's just the break. I used to have a car similar to this one.

This is such and awesome series!! But the quality here is terrible. Go and check out: "thehire(dot)tv" (thehire(dot)co(dot)uk if you are in the uk) for free, streamed high-def, fullscreen versions of all of the hire episodes. Hope this helps :)
