John Denver
(Dec 31, 1943 - Oct 12, 1997)
On October 12, 1997, Denver was killed when his aircraft crashed just off the coast of California at Pacific Grove.
Upon announcement of his death, Governor Roy Romer of Colorado ordered all Colorado flags to be lowered to half-staff to honor Denver. His ashes were scattered in the Rocky Mountains.
RIP ... Dear John!

You know, people put down John Denver for not understanding the words. His words are pure poetry and will ring in my ear for as long as I shall live. We all love you John and miss you so much. RIP, my friend...

I could care less what anyone thinks about John.. This man is a legend and was a musical genius.. Anyone who mock this man don't know music nor have an appreciation for real music. That is what John Denver stood for.. May he RIP!!!

I understood him, and never really cared who commercialized what. Sit on top of a 14,000 foot peak in Colorado, and you'll see what I mean. Like pbmax said, good times getting high by the campfire. High in elevation, and high in spirit. You should try it sometime.

I love the shrill honesty and intent vibrato in the Man's Voice, what can I say? The guy got it right; Nature is the place to be, because God is there, and John is singing the soundtrack.
and everybody's high ! lord knows I am rt now...haha One of the BEST SONGS EVER!
He's so full of joy ...( 1 week ago by djm55)
He's so full of joy and warmth here -- he even laughs to himself during the final verse. A wonderful song, so full of life and beauty. Does anyone know where this clip came from? The middle two verses are skipped -- it may have been to limit the song to 3:00.

I visited a friend from CO in 2002, and would have gone through Independence Pass which is about 12,000 feet I believe, but there was snow so the road was closed. But there are so many beautiful areas there. Garden of the Gods is never mentioned, but it's rust colored all throughout the rock formations and is a sight to see.

Oh those lyrics are just amazing. Can't help but love John Denver.
The first few lines, "he was born in the summer of his 27th year / coming home to a place he'd never been before ..." and the rest, just amazing lyrics. Makes me want to move out to the Rockies and find real meaning and spirituality in life.

When I was growing up in Georgia my parents listened to John Denver all the time. My parents split (1978) we moved up North. Every time I hear his music I'm brought back home. I eventually moved back south. Though Florida is not southern it closer than Maine.
