Okay lets take a look at the beginnings of the M16. Befor America put it into service, it was considered better than the AK47 because it was considered more technologicaly superior and was made from different materials. Yet when it went to Vietnam all the defects came to view. It jammed very easily, was very hard to clean, had to many parts, and lookin at the terrain of Vietnam was very unsuited for close range combat.

Main reasons the Tiger was so feared was it's gun (88mm) and 150mm thick frontal armor. Shermans didn't have a gun (75-76mm) big enough to to toe to toe with a tiger and win.

m1a2 weighs 63.3 tons not 69 and it isn't the latest advancement in armour it uses chobham (as seen on challenger 1) but challenger 2 is using dorchester which is slightly better. also the a2 has been converted to diesel for economy and reliability which i think is a good thing for the US to do. awsome tank though and i wouldn't want to be on the recieving end of that 120

I don;t .The Abrams uses aluminum oxide tiles for its armour, which doesnt have nearly teh protective ability as the lastest Chobham (Dorchester) armour.

Depends what purpose type of abram you're talking about.
For a known Tank Vs. Tank. we deploy the abrams with dual reactive armor and under it the depleted uranium.
For Support roles, we use the Not very protected one.
For urban tasks a "naked" abrams

Hate to point out the obvious..all Abrams now carry aluminum oxide tile armour, no such thing os urban, dual, or not very. Even with this armour, its still a generation behind in armour technology..just a matter of the armour tech catching up to the tank tech.
