There is no part in the lyrics that say it ISN'T anti-religious either. Though he doesn't come out and say it in the song it's not glorifying religion either... so I don't get why people are saying that it can't be. I think you all know that Corey Taylor isn't a die hard Christian.. come on people.

I've not only ... ( 9 hours ago by KageniSunaka)
I've not only listened closely to the lyrics, but also read them, again, closely. Perhaps it would be incorrect to simply say anti-religious in general. However, it would be entirely accurate to say the song has what are more or less self-evident anti-Christian and (more specifically) anti-Catholic meanings. Saying this isn't the case would be like saying George Wallace's "segregation now, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever" speech wasn't anti-Civil Rights: it's ignorant and foolish.
Also, Leonisian: ... ( 9 hours ago by KageniSunaka)
Also, Leonisian: the very theme of anger and vengeance that you claim is so intoxicating are precisely the anti-Christian sentiments expressed here, the idea that not only is it the case that "Jesus wasn't there" but that "I will not forgive." Aside from the self-evident, if (given the scenario) readily understandable, hostility expressed, the declaration of vengeance contained in the song is in direct opposition to the majority of Christian teachings relevant to the scenario.
Also, in regard to ... ( 9 hours ago by KageniSunaka)
Also, in regard to your comment about close-mindedness: "the modern man fancies he has reached supreme culture because he opens his intellect. But the supreme culture (in the forcible modern phrase) is to know when to shut your head. There is one odd aspect of the man with this sort of open mind - a man whom one imagines with an open mouth. It is that being thus gaping and helpless, he is really brutal and oppressive." (quote to be continued in my next post)
Continuing and ... ( 9 hours ago by KageniSunaka)
Continuing and citing the quote I began in my last post: "He tyrannises; he forces on all other men his own insolent indecision. He forbids his followers to come to any conclusion till he has done so. He will allow no one else to find the truth, as Peary will allow no one else to find the Pole. He is the worst tyrant that the world has seen; he is the persecuting sceptic. He is the man who has held up the whole world now for over a hundred years." --Gilbert Keith Chesterton
To continue in my ... ( 9 hours ago by KageniSunaka)
To continue in my own words: The biggest problem with being perpetually open-minded (as the modern fashion goes) is the same problem that comes from being perpetually open-mouthed: if one's mouth or one's mind is perpetually open, it's simply not possible to digest anything. The issue with this ought be fairly clear to see. If one's mouth is always open, one can never swallow anything--much less digest anything, and one's body will eventually starve. The same goes for the mind.
Also, lest you ... ( 8 hours ago by KageniSunaka)
Also, lest you mistake what I mean here, I do not refer, when I say swallowing things, to simply and blindly accepting all one considers as fact. It is the simplest sort of common sense to know that one ought chew thoroughly before one swallows anything and that, if what one is chewing tastes spoiled or rancid, one ought simply spit it out.
Back to the ... ( 8 hours ago by KageniSunaka)
Back to the original subject of discussion: Leo, I think you had it fairly correct when you said the song's rage "is intoxicating." I would not use intoxicating in the same positive sense you did. I'm certainly not debating that the song's viewpoint has allure; no intoxicant is without such. However, as with any strong and bitter drink, this sort of hatred greatly impairs one's judgment, and making any sort of major decision while affected by it is roughly equivalent to driving while very drunk.

okay... we all get it smartass. if ur such a great devoted christian wit these ideals and a perfect vision of what the world is like.... how the hell did u end up on this song's page? if you're such a holy person, get off the stupid page and comment 2 urself because no one really cares about it. ill give you one thing, u seem like a smart person who knows what he's talking about but this comment space is meant for commenting the arts... not philosophy or religious converting lessons....

I'm sorry if I ... ( 6 hours ago by KageniSunaka)
I'm sorry if I seemed rude or unkind before; I honestly didn't intend to. As for how I can both have ended up on this page and be a Christian: I would use a line from John Milton's Areopagitica to explain: "I cannot praise a fugitive and cloistered virtue, unexercised and unbreathed, that never sallies out and sees her adversary, but slinks out of the race, where that immortal garland is to be run for, not without dust and heat." (to be continued)
To put the quote in ... ( 6 hours ago by KageniSunaka)
To put the quote in my own words: virtue that exists in ignorance of all vice or in seclusion from all vice isn't virtue; it's ignorance of vice. Moving on to your other points: first, I'm by no means a holy person, far from it, in fact. What virtues I might have learned thus far were largely learned the hard way: by being tested by vices and learning from having failed such a test. As for the page being meant to comment on the arts: I agree. In fact, that's why I'm here. (continued above)
I came to this page ... ( 6 hours ago by KageniSunaka)
I came to this page for much the same reason others here did: I like music. I also largely enjoy what of Apocalyptica's music I've heard. Their version of "In the Hall of the Mountain King" is an excellent version of a great song. As for my commentary: I am sorry if it seemed like I was proselytizing, as I have to admit that that was not my intent. (continued)
I merely wanted to ... ( 6 hours ago by KageniSunaka)
I merely wanted to discuss what I felt Leosinian rightly identified as a major theme of the song. My point that anger can be as intoxicating as alcohol was based upon experience I've had and mistakes I've made while under the influence of each of them. Anyways, I enjoy the discussion. As such, thanks responses, even those who just responded to say you don't care to respond, as that's still preferable to a silent apathy too intellectually starved to care to voice even itself.

Well, I came back to the song video because I love it.
And wow... Some low life commented 7 times.. 7.
To my comment.
Because I got tired of people hating on it.
But w/e.
I love this song and there are many others who do as well.
So ok.
Love the song, it's amazing. ANYONE FEEL ME?

Interpret this video as you'd like - anti-Christian or otherwise - it's awesome nonetheless. Personally, I could care less of any given song's meaning so long as the delivery of the song itself is good. I listen to Christian bands like Red and Thousand Foot Krutch despite being an atheist; I just don't share their philosophical views.
