As far as a band they were almost tighter back then.. as time goes on Kurt, for whatever reason, became shittier at guitar. Maybe he was playing into the whole dont give a fuck about anything persona that made him famous. Butch Vig made Nirvana into a radio friendly band, just as Bob Rock did for Metallica, maybe the label and everything going on gave Kurt an "opinion" on how he should dress and act as well.

lmao, they were much tighter after dave grohl joined the band. kurt got much better at guitar/songwriting in the years after this, is was the heroin that made him act strangely at some of the live shows. nirvana didn't give a fuck what the label thought and the fact they paid 2 million dollars to steve albini to produce in utero showed they wanted to get away from the polished sound of nevermind.
