I'd be amazed if any of the 2" masters survive. NBC went on a short-sighted vault purge in the 70s. There are very few NBC tapes left from the late 50s to late 60s. Even 60s-era Johnny Carson is gone, surviving only on lousy 16mm kinescopes. This is a really cool and rare tape you have! Thanks for posting.

I played on the Agnes Scott college bowl team in the late 1980s. This 1966 match was, as one might imagine, legendary amongst alumnae, faculty and students. It's great fun finally to see the show. Makes me proud to this day. Thanks for posting!

Those questions were tough. Ironic that the next-to-last question involved Einstein and the Agnes Scott team answered it first. A page at the Agnes Scott College website discusses the show- very interesting comments.

What a pulse-pounding close contest on "Robert Earle's GE College Bowl" from 1966 (approximately 40 years ago).

They showed the last 10 seconds or so of this game during NBC's coverage of the 1984 National Championship semi-finals and finals. Besides NBC's general erasure of video tape (for example, pretty much all of the NBC "Wheel of Fortune" episodes are gone), color video tape from the 1960s usually didn't last very long.

I played competitive college bowl in the late 90s and early 00s, and for the most part, the questions at tournaments weren't nearly as difficult as these were. There are quite a few people who are/were on the circuit who would do really well with this question pack, but I suspect most players (like me) would be reduced to quivering jelly by halftime.

220 to 215? What a close game that was. It was just too bad that this game was made out to the be "The Battle Of The Sexes". The fact that it was an All-Female team defeating an All-Male team, that made this historic, mentioned by Mwillf, is a very Sexist thing to say. In the world of the Quiz show, there is no Man, or Woman, everyone is equal, we all have good enough Brains to enter, and compete. And may the best person, or team, in this matter, win.

At least one more color episode still exists, from 1965. There's a clip posted somewhere on the web.

Congrats to the ladies (not girls!) from Agnes Scott, but Princeton got hosed in the first part ..... the answer explaining the speed of sound should have been as acceptable as the one given. Of course, Princeton should not have answered so quickly with the narrow lead and time running out.

B*tch slap 'em ladies. This is why I love the South and can't stand the smug, provincial, bastard Yankees who ar just so sure their poop doesn't stink. Worked with them all my life, never could stand that dog...THANK YOU SO MUCH for putting them in their place.
