I think what you are hearing is the typical fender warm tube sound. You may not be able to dial that in on just any amp. You may want to go a bit bassier and play out of you neck pickup more. Just a bit of distortion enough to cut a little bit but not a sustainy grungy distortion. I have found that if I use less distortion I can hear myself better and it forces you to work a bit to get your guitar to sing which is a big part of blues playing in my mind. Hope this helps.

This is not really how to learn how to improvise, you just showed the blues riff, nothing on improvising on it. You cant really play that riff and improvise at the same time...
