this is the most common misconception in sports. NBA players do NOT have the best verticals. Olympic weightlifters, sprinters, football players and volleyball players on average have higher vertical than NBA players. There are probably less than 4 players inthe NNA with a true 40 inch standing vertical. NBA's vertical average is just above 32 inches.

NBA players don't have the best verticals because they aren't pound for pound the strongest athletes. If you are talking about running verts that is a different story. Have you seen the 2000 slam dunk contest where they measure the players' verts? The only player that went above 40 inches was steve francis, and that was from running.

If you are talking about all around abilities then NBA players do have the edge over a lot of other athletes (but again, so do a lot of other athletes of others ports). When I am talking about athleticism in the vertical sense i am talking about EXPLOSIVENESS - something that football players and weightlifters have edge over NBA players.

yo take this into consideration and reply back u said vinces running vert wat 37, but let me give u some facts look at some vince carter head over rim dunks, some on them he gets his head 2 inches over the rim, he is 6'6" which is 78" and NBA rim is 10' or 120 inches if he gets his head two inches over the rim 122-78 that would put his running vert at 44"
