The 1994's version with Wiener Staatsoper and Lott-von Otter is more 'perfect' but live recording of Munich 1979, even if you could find some defect (Bayerische are not the Wiener, Jungwirt not perfect), involves heavily (if you want to cry choose the second one. An opinion only)

I saw him conduct Rosenkavalier at the Munich Nationaltheater - the place you see here in this video - and it was/is absolutely definitive. Granted, the Bayrisches Staatsorchester is not the WPO but then . . . they aren't always all they are cracked upo to be either. Pretty arrogant anbd full of themselves often. I saw even Lenny, for example, have some trouble with them telling him how to conduct. I kid you not.
Bottom line is chemistry between conductor and players.

Thanks for adding this video, fucking brilliant. I have seen the more recent DVD of him doing this same incredible piece with Wiener Staatsoper, also amazing. What a shame there are simply not more people with even one quarter of the genius of Klaiber, it would make being an orchestral musician a lot more enjoyable. Klaiber is God of music!
