We should feel affected in some small way at least, although suppose you're know someone you dont know him personally is dead, and a animal is dead too, 2 types of lives, you probably will feel more concerned about the human one, in spite you're loving animals as much as humans or even more, when you thin about the humans one you'll think about his history, his family, his life.
