The Quotes: "Question with boldness even the existence of God; because, if there be one, he must more approve of the homage of reason than that of blindfolded fear." --Thomas Jefferson (1743-1826) "A man's ethical behavior should be based effectually on sympathy, education, and social ties; no
religious basis is necessary. Man would indeed be in a poor way if he had to be restrained by fear of punishment and hope of reward after death." --Albert Einstein (1879-1955) "We must question the story logic of having an all-knowing all-powerful God, who creates faulty Humans, and then blames th
em for his own mistakes." --Gene Roddenberry (1921-1991) "Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence." --Carl Sagan (1934-1997) "I do not think it is necessary to believe that the same God who has given us our senses, reason, and intelligence wished us to abandon their use, giving us by
some other means the information that we could gain through them." ibid., p. 226 --Galileo Galilei (1564--1642) "The intelligent beings in these regions should therefore not be surprised if they observe that their locality in the universe satisfies the conditions that are necessary for their existe
nce. It is a bit like a rich person living in a wealthy neighborhood not seeing any poverty." --Stephen Hawking (1942-present) "Man is, and always has been, a maker of gods. It has been the most serious and significant occupation of his sojourn in the world." --John Burroughs (1837-1921) "If ther
e is a sin against life, it consists perhaps not so much in despairing of life as in hoping for another life and in eluding the implacable grandeur of this life." --Albert Camus (1913-1960) "Faith, as well intentioned as it may be, must be built on facts, not fiction--faith in fiction is a damnable
false hope." --Thomas Edison (1847-1931) "And if there were a God, I think it very unlikely that He would have such an uneasy vanity as to be offended by those who doubt His existence." --Bertrand Russell (1872 - 1970) "Faith is the great cop-out, the great excuse to evade the need to think and e
valuate evidence. Faith is belief in spite of, even perhaps because of, the lack of evidence." --Richard Dawkins (1941-persent) "Man... he thinks he is the Creator's pet ... he even believes the Creator loves him; has a passion for him; sits up nights to admire him; yes and watch over him and keep
him out of trouble. He prays to him and thinks He listens. Isn't it a quaint idea." Letters from the Earth --Samuel Clemens / Mark Twain (1835-1910) "I cannot persuade myself that a beneficent and omnipotent God would have designedly created the Ichneumonidae with the express intention of their fe
eding within the living bodies of caterpillars or that a cat should play with mice" --Charles Darwin (1809-1882) "An honest god is the noblest work of man. ... God has always resembled his creators. He hated and loved what they hated and loved and he was invariably found on the side of those in pow
er." --Robert G. Ingersoll (1833-1899) "It's an incredible con job when you think about it, to believe something now in exchange for something after death. Even corporations with their reward systems don't try to make it posthumous." --Gloria Steinem (1934-present) "I find the whole business of re
ligion profoundly interesting. But it does mystify me that otherwise intelligent people take it seriously." --Douglas Adams (1952-2001) "I can't embrace a male god who has persecuted female sexuality throughout the ages. And that persecution still goes on today all over the world." --Amanda Donohoe
(1962-present) "The beauty of religious mania is that it has the power to explain everything. Once God (or Satan) is accepted as the first cause of everything which happens in the mortal world, nothing is left to chance...logic can be happily tossed out the window." --Stephen King (1947-persent)
"Religions are like fireflies. They require darkness in order to shine." --Arthur Schopenhauer (1788-1860) "It is usually when men are at their most religious that they behave with the least sense and the greatest cruelty." --Ilka Chase (1900-1978) "There was a time when religion ruled the world.
It is known as The Dark Ages." --Ruth Hurmence Green (1915-1981) "Religion is a byproduct of fear... For much of human history, it may have been a necessary evil, but why was it more evil than necessary? Isn't killing people in the name of God a pretty good definition of insanity?" --Arthur C. Clar
ke (1917-present) "The wisdom from these great thinkers is a precious gift. To ignore their intellectual contribution, is to risk stalling the progress they hoped to foster." SecularAstronomer (1987-) and websnarf (1969-), YouTube Atheists. .

I'll throw out a few terms within the context of studies: Sample size Representative sample Validity Reliability Quantifiable
In any case, ... ( 3 months ago by SecularAstronomer)
In any case, ReconTeam111, now that you have made your claim, you are obligated to provide supporting evidence. First, you need to define and quantify the following terms: "stuck up," "far left wing," and "emo." (I consider "teenagers" and "think they are far smarter than they actually are" as predefined and quantified) You then need to provide evidence as to how many atheist individuals fit each of these five criteria, along with evidence that they are, in fact, all atheists.
And, finally, you ... ( 3 months ago by SecularAstronomer)
And, finally, you will need to provide evidence that the number of atheists that you identified as fitting the criteria actually comprise the majority of atheists, by providing evidence as to the total number of atheists world-wide.
Then again, ... ( 3 months ago by SecularAstronomer)
Then again, ReconTeam111, you probably cannot do any of this, because you were probably using unreliable, invalid, relatively infinitesimal and quite unrepresentative samples in the form of limited personal/subjective experience with probably no more than a few hundred individuals to derive your conclusions. ...it's sad, really.

Get off your high horse already. I am not going to create a bar chart for you because you are not satisfied with my opinion.
Somebody said that atheists are on average smarter and I said what I thought about the matter based on those I have encountered.

"Get off your high horse already." ReconTeam111, requesting someone to back up a grandiose, overreaching, stereotypical claim is not tantamount to sitting atop a "high horse." It is, however, intellectually honest; something that your failure to provide evidence for your claim indicates that you are devoid of.
"I am not going to ... ( 3 months ago by SecularAstronomer)
"I am not going to create a bar chart for you because you are not satisfied with my opinion." It is not about "satisfaction of an opinion." You made a very real claim regarding the physical universe, and of the perceptions and demeanors of beings within it. You are now refusing to support your claim with evidence.

"Somebody said that atheists are on average smarter and I said what I thought about the matter based on those I have encountered." Thank you for confirming my speculation: you are using unreliable, questionably valid, relatively infinitesimal and quite unrepresentative samples in the form of limited personal/subjective experience with probably no more than a few hundred individuals to derive your conclusions, i.e. your assumptions. And again, it's really quite sad.
I suggest you get ... ( 3 months ago by SecularAstronomer)
I suggest you get at least a high school level understanding of statistics and psychology, and that you hone your reasoning abilities to, at least, from pre-reflective to quasi-reflective, so you may see the fallacy in projecting conclusions from analysis of data derived from relatively infinitesimal and quite unrepresentative samples onto the majority.
What do you not ... ( 3 months ago by ReconTeam111)
What do you not understand about the fact that I am not doing a damn study here? I am giving my opinion like the previous poster did, who you are not harrassing because you happen to be an extreme secularist or atheist. That is what is sad here. Taking secularism to the point where you don't believe government officials should be religious.

"What do you not understand about the fact that I am not doing a damn study here? ReconTeam111, you are not listening... I will say it again -- listen this time; You didn't just say something that was a matter of opinion - you made a very real claim regarding the physical universe, and of the perceptions and demeanors of beings within it, and you are now refusing to support your claim with evidence. [continued]
[continued] What ... ( 3 months ago by SecularAstronomer)
[continued] What you are doing, ReconTeam111, is no different than someone claiming that most Christens are teenage sociopathic socialist that think they're geniuses, and then refusing to back up the claim with any evidence, as well as admitting that it is based on nothing more than experientially derived anecdotal evidence.... It is surprising and a bit unsettling that you cannot grasp the fallacy in doing something like that.
"I am giving my ... ( 3 months ago by SecularAstronomer)
"I am giving my opinion like the previous poster did, who you are not harrassing because you happen to be an extreme secularist or atheist." His statement is probably dubiously founded, but I ignored it (as I do with most claims) because it was tentative enough to say "seems" rather than "is." (like you did) He sated how things look to him; you, on the other hand, made a knee-jerk, positivistic, absolutist claim. (there is a huge difference)
"That is what is ... ( 3 months ago by SecularAstronomer)
"That is what is sad here. Taking secularism to the point where you don't believe government officials should be religious." ...not only did I never say that, but I also never so much as implied it... it seems you have an bit of an over-active imagination, as well as a tendency to fail to listen.

"Sorry but I could ... ( 3 months ago by SecularAstronomer)
"Sorry but I could not decide which of the five responses I get each comment I make to respond to. /sarcasm" First of all, I suggest you quote sections of what I say, and then respond in the same comment. That way, your response is never divorced from what you are responding to. Second of all, you are not responding to the points I made, nor are you apologizing for the false accusations that you leveled against me: 1. "extreme secularist or atheist" 2. "(religious) government officials"
