Not to offend anyone, but what is Jackie Wilson's ethnicity? I don't know andy of his background but he looks like a Desi guy I know. The Ronettes I think were considered Black but were actually mixed race but the public was told they were Latinas from Spanish Harlem.

Sorry but I have to say Elvis admitted that he learned from Jackie . I have a 45 minute cassette tape of an Elvis interview and it's Elvis talking about Jackie Wilson. There would be no Elvis if it wasn't for Jackie.

It's one thing to say "Elvis admitted that he learned from Jackie." I have no problem with that. It's another to say, "This is where Elvis Presley got his moves and singing style." Fine, Elvis was influenced by Jackie Wilson. He was also influenced by Bill Monroe, Dean Martin, Jimmy Reed, Hank Williams, burlesque dancers, holy-roller preachers, and all sorts of other people. It just bothers when people try to reduce this sort of question to a simple (literally) black-and-white issue.

Ive read the Elvis Presley--Jackie Wilson influence on various postings. Iam black and ive gotta say singing voice wise, I dont detect any Jackie Wilson influence at all, so maybe its his dance style. Elvis made no secret that he hung around black nightspots as a kid, and learned what he could, he appreciated our culture. In his singing voice, the influence i pick up is black singer Roy Hamilton and crooner Dean Martin. As for Jackie Wilson's ethnicity, he was black, he processed his hair

I knew Jackie and his wife Harlen very well, even toured with them in 1969, He got his influnce from of all people Al Jolson!! I Think of Jackies funeral in Detroit at the russel street baptest church, we were all talking about how no one put it together, Check out an Al Jolson clip, and you will see the rolling eyes, the out streached hands, and the long notes.

Thanks for your input Uncle Tom. Much appreciated. In the meantime, read something besides internet postings. Elvis himself admitted that he was heavily influenced by JW. Are you honestly telling me that you can't hear that in E's vibrato? Why am I even talking to someone who is obviously deaf? You just dispelled the myth that all black people are musically inclined.
Uncle Tom? Ooh-wee, ...( 1 week ago by isleyrundgren)
Uncle Tom? Ooh-wee, FYI brideym, I'll continue to give my opinion when i read internet postings, after all this is a forum. I'll maintain that EP does NOT sound like JW. EP was a baritone, JW was a near operatic tenor. Perhaps you should listen to the voices of the two singers i mentioned. when i listen to E's vibrato i hear Dean Martin. Call yourself a talent scout?, youre just a bitch that likes to insult people, maybe youre not getting enough genatalia, get back to rearing your 4 kids, hussy
Why the hell is ...( 1 week ago by mcell2488)
Why the hell is everyone making such a big deal on where they got there influence because what matters is there talent and they where both talented men. The only comment I have a problem with is the one by jahlove426 who said that without JW there would be no EP, well that is just ignorant because Jackie may have been an influence on Elvis but not his only influence and he eventualy evolved as an artist and developed his own style. They where both great performers so just injoy there music.
