I was lucky enough to have seen this performance live at the Ohio State fair in 1968. But after watching in again on You Tube I realized how lucky I was to have seen this remarkable funk band at it's inception of fame.

I've watched this so many times and it gets better each time. I can imagine the schedulers for this concert insisting that they perform last. Otherwise they maintenance crew would quit in protest over having to clean up the backstage suicide of whatever poor band drew the short straw and went on after this group of geniuses. I personally believe that fame and the pressure he had in terms of being the "voice" for politic awareness sent him over the edge. Members of the group stated that at Sly&Family Stones height of success, Black Panthers and other power groups pressure sly into speaking for the people.
