I loved Dick Shawn in the Producers & It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World. He was a crazed genius. It's amazing to see him sing & dance.

Dick Shawn was not only a comic genius, he was also a good guy, too. I was fortunate enough to have known him briefly in the late seventies. He died onstage, doing an act not terribly different from this one. I hope that younger people are curious enough to find out about this remarkable talent.

A very good question, and one I wish I could answer. The one-man show that evolved from this routine was called The Second Greatest Entertainer in the Whole Wide World, and I believe Samuel French published it. But I don't know where you could learn more about him, except perhaps Wikipedia, or the internet movie data base.
But he was a one-of-a-kind, and his performance as the hippie Hitler in The Producers is truly immortal.
I still miss him.

I loved him as LSD. I cant watch the new "Producers", because it doesnt have him in it. You were very lucky to know him. His dancing in a Mad (X 4) World was just the funniest thing I've ever seen.If you have any material or photo's of him please post on youtube. Thank you

Do you mean Angel from 'The Rockford Files'? That was Stuart Margolin! He did look a bit like Dick Shawn, I never saw him with a beard but if he had one he would probaly have looked a lot like Stuart Margolin.

I was recently introduced to Dick Shawn when I was given a DVD of The Producers with Dick Shawn's character- Lorenzo St. DuBois. Superb! Since then I've been captivated. But there is so little about him? Sylvester (Dick Shawn) twist dance with his girlfriend in Mad Mad Mad Mad World has to be the best scene in the film. Check also Evil Roy Slade Bing Bell Dying Cowboy - Bing Bell (Shawn) "It's the only thing I ever loved, Slade....(pow)....'xcept me!" (lol) Just brilliant.

He was 62 years old when he died on stage from a massive heart attack while performing a comedy bit. Paramedics were not called right away because the audience thought the attack was part of the act. As you can see, he was a very physical performer. I hope to see clips on youtube of his appearances on the old Tonight Show. They were wild.

Can you just imagine a couple out, very much in love, holding hands in the moonlight? They look up at the moon & they hear a voice yell out, "Vote Republican!"
