Dave ´s great,his dynamic and way of thinking has a story - start, gradation, and the end. All of that is filled and no stroke sounds boring, every has a his unique thrill - pauses, flams, triplets,every is utilize in maximum, but he wasn´t overplayed as colaiuta and gadd (repeatin´same stuffs in a sa me way). Weckl is thinking about complex sense, the other are concentrating on individual stuffs and it influence a complex expression. What a pity Dave is nowadays more oriented in a similar way

For shure these players are really absolutely great-- but listen--music has nothing to do with sports or ranking-lists ore something like this--its just music--and there are so many great drummers in the jazzscene so you can`t say this one or this one is Nr.1!How old are you?Didn`hear you about Tony Williams,Jack de Johnette,Billy Cobham,Elvin Jones,Peter Erskine,Dennis Chambers and and and?? These drummers you can also call as the best drummers in the world--who cares that you say Weckl is NR.1

Not just the drummers he named, also people in allround the world (especially Africa/Cuba) who aren't and don't even wanna b known all around the world... there IS NO best, there are just certain levels they have all crossed and then there's style, taste, technique,wisdom... But if u wanna say ``for me the best is Weckl ´´, go on, that's your opinion, and he's really great ;-)

Notice i don ´t compare, i can only use words to describe a what i feel from it, and i sent a comment ´cause there probably half of loose style as you sad, and half of weckl´s fans. But i don´t care about no compare. I´ll wrote it ´couse i´m full of that mesianism of their, and the reason? They play very relax, more lax, nowadays dave´s do it as they do, and in a whole of what i mean i seek to equilibrium, not exaggarete. When dave miss it (and from his transition dave does) i´ll drop him.

see when you look at this you can see the varying difference between the drummers styles...Dave and Vinnie are both 'drum engineeers' while in comparison Gadd is a musician..His drumming is the only one which has rythm and skill combined which is why it can appeal to all audiences and not just drummers....the other 2 just remind me of Thomas Lang...

ok.. last time i watched this video (yes i watch it everyday.. and learn more each time).. but last time i watched, i saw a comment that asked who kept the cowbell going..
in this kinda thing the drummers alternate fills (obviously)... when they are between their own fills, the drummers keep the core rythem
and to all you other ppl arguing about who's better... each drummer has their own style... their own element.. they are all frikkin awsome in their specific element.. nobody "won"...

Weckl - "Triplet King", love the stuff with Mike Stern (can't tell anything else really)
Colaiuta - Mad hair, and mad last name. Highly praised as being the greatest to solo with (master of polyrhythms etc.)

This is some awesome solos, and with that line-up it can't go wrong.
There's no doubt they're all great drummers with fantastic technique. But even though it's a pleasure to watch for all the drummers out there - including myself - I think that it's sometimes too much "look at me" and doesn't really sounds so good. At especially Vinnie's stuff I miss a great groove with some nice details - no offence, what he plays is awesome and he have got a great technique.

True, drums aren't really a "solo instrument". Their function is just simply to give the beat and easen up other's job - like soloing.
