Btw, to Japanese people this is just plain kitschy and stupid. :D Imagine a western-themed restaurant in Japan which is decorated like a stereotypical western saloon with Eastern European servers who can't speak English -- it would be just as dumb and hilarious as that.

Im Japanese and I find this place amazing. The restaurant isnt trying to be act on cliches and stereotypes. They are entertaining and presenting an art form. Whats wrong with that?
I'm also a native New York and this isnt just a tourist attraction. Look at how they prepare the food. They mention having a contest to better themselves as chefs. Theres so many resturants out there that will keep the same menu for 5 or 7 years.

Don't try to lump all of us together, please. I'm Japanese too and to me, this restaurant is extremely kitschy! It's like a glorified version of hibachi restaurants, complete with non-Japanese waiters. It's just more expensive and "classy".

I went to a Jamaican cafe in Japan where the chef is actually from Fiji. Dumb? Sure, but It's just business. In New York, the sushi chef school is owned by Koreans which give you a certification just in 6 weeks whereas it's said that it takes about 10 years to be a professional sushi chef. It takes experiences to tell which is safe to eat. Anything in Fancy side of Manhattan is fake. It's about entertainment not cuisine. 'Highly experienced Japanese chef' would not work at this restaurant.
