I think both singers are marvellous, but to say Miss Fleming has no dramatic presence is an utter nonsense. Please go on being Kiri fans, but don't try to make to raise her star by felling others, especially when it is totally unjustified.

What a beautiful and luscious line she keeps throughout this aria. It's as if Mozart wrote this specifically for Renee...Just absolutely amazing...Breath-taking!!!!

I especially love the G she adds in the repeat as well as her amazing breath control in this whole half. Gorgeous!!!

To paulotomaso, elzabethvonslussen,ssbs18 and AntonioChiesa: I don't like nor want to compare voices (Fleming, Kanawa). I once read the answer Arturo Toscanini once gave to a young singer: ...Yes young lady, you have a very good voice. You even are on tune. But I am not touched by it...
That is just what I look for in music. Who is "better" than who (except for opera acting, perhaps)? I can listen to top singers without feeling gooseflesh, and then hear unknown artists whose voices thrill me.

Renee Flemming ... ( 2 months ago by KarlAmade)
Renee Flemming sings with a style that is too modern and dramatic for 18th century opera, you hear the brutal attacks she create some times... I heard Renee singing Aleluja From Excultate Jubilate.... In some sort of church; she was tearing the whole piece into dust, it was so sad. I like her in modern music, but as a period musician I'm afraid this is too modern for any mozart or earlier music pieces.

You should take a look at her with Alleluja from Excultate Jubilate... ouufff:(

I've heard this sung a number of times by various artists. Fleming is absolutely outstanding! The emotion and control she brings to this magnificent piece of music takes my breath away.

You obviously know more about classical music than I do, but I think Mozart superbly survives this 'wrong-period' approach!

It never ceases to amaze me how much this woman hooks and hollers like a bad baritone. Credit is due to her voice for being able to withstand all that harsh, hooked, sonically flat and uninformed singing. This "interpretation" is tedious to say the least and overdone at the same time. No No NO!!!

I understand the complaint about Ms. Fleming singing in "modern style". I think that in small ways it does detract. For example, do I wish her voice was steady throughout as it is from 5:15-5:25? Of course. When it speeds up she seems to have a much easier time (as she has written in her auto-bio). However, I can forgive this small detraction when I think about the feeling in her interpretation. Overall, there is more to appreciate than to criticize. In my opinion.
The stupid singers ... ( 1 month ago by Heraopera)
The stupid singers who today make career are often to fast with the music and they dont like to be creative in work to get the secrets behind the music.... this is awful. And to many of them sounded like fastfoodsingers - nothing special....often enough they work for the musicoperaindustrie like officegirls... THE LAST REAL DIVA has been Jessye Norman (intelligent and special)...but I am an Fanatic....

If you like a singer, then listen to him or her. If you don't like them, don't listen. This comes with a factory guarantee that this method will always work. It works nicely for me.

Thanks for this record: even though maybe Renee Fleming is not a kind of Mozartian voice, I agree with those who thing that definitelly this Fleming's achievement is something to appreciate and not to critisize. I never understood well such people who all the time complain about everything or simply critisize everything.
I think this is a fabulous performance of great singer and I am glad that the audience at Met recognized this as well. She deserved a big applause.
