Don't get me wrong, I had never seen the original until this year. First episode I ever saw was US version S2 ep. "drug testing". I loved it and was compelled to buy the previous episodes and watch it all. I watched S1&2 and thought they were very good and then heard about the orginal.

So I went out and saw how perfect it actually was. So few shows have the ability so be so thorough in both comedy and human emotion throughout every epidsode and be able to not run its course and end perfectly making you want more.

I am from the UK and i loved The Office when it first came out, but I was in America recently and caught an episode of the US version, and I thought it was fantastic, I bought The first 3 seasons and it has quickly become my personal favorite show, and i am surprised, as i didn't think it would be anywhere as near as good as the UK version, but I find it funnier. Just my opinion

I think tht the US version of th show still retains those moments of awkwardness due to th lead characters behaviour, which is one thing tht made The Office so popular in Britain. I'd suggest tht u maybe cant compare th two bcus Carell does th character in a slightly different way. Plus the English version is shot in DV format, making it feel like a docu, whereas, th US version is glossier. Tht kind of takes away from what The Office originally was in England.

Carell is softer, an idiot, but still likeable, thus they could develop a love interest for him.
Gervais is a pioneer when it comes to extremely uncomfortable comedy. Carell's character couldn't be that out-there for a series that has no planned ending.
