Actually, I believe when you say someone is *the* shit (emphasis on "the"), it means that you think they are awesome. Like, they are THE absolute best...does that makes sense?
Otherwise you would just say they are simply "shit", "shitty", or "the shitS" (plural)...it's one of those confusing English coloquialisms...

How great is "Don't Give Up"? I want this song played at my funeral (many years from now, I assure you), as I feel it sums up my life. What a great piece of music! As gripping as Peter's vocals are, I have to say Kate gets me even more with hers. I'm sure a lot of us were "taught to fight, taught to win" and "never thought [we] could fail" making this this song incredibly accurate and touching.
