This is the second part of the Borg Documentary. The second part deals with the conflicts between the Federation and the Borg.

What a big man you are, insulting people over the internet. I'm guessing you don't have any plans for college, if that is your line of thinking.

I was mostly kidding with the comment, but you two were engaging in pointless fanwankery.
Its kind of stupid ...( 3 months ago by TariqAlSuave)
Its kind of stupid to analyze the soundness of strategic decisions made in a work of fiction that is not about military strategy. Of course you're going to find faults, usually far simpler than "just sending one cube". How about "why didn't they send a whole cube back in time before meeting the fleet, then proceed to earth". How about "why cant the Borg make nanoprobe darts so they don't have to stab someone to assimilate them." How about "why doesn't the federation just replicate ships."
This kind of ...( 3 months ago by TariqAlSuave)
This kind of fiction isn't meant to stand up to that kind of analysis; it's just meant to tell a good story; ST-FC was about Picard's Ahab-esque obsession, Data's struggle towards humanity, and the dangers of Utopian thinking.
Stop obsessing and enjoy the movie.
I'm not ...( 3 months ago by Bloodthroe)
I'm not over-analyzing, it's not like a little error kept me from enjoying the movie. It was merely an afterthought I had while watching it. I agreed that they should've sent more than 1 cube. Then someone responded to me saying that it makes sense to send only 1 cube. I disagreed and explained why.
I also thought they could've time travelled before they attacked Earth, but I didn't bring it up, because I'm not over-analyzing it. You, however, did bring up the time travel. Good job.

I was just using that as an example to point out that soft SF like Star Trek can be paper thin to this kind of analysis, so it should be avoided in order to focus on the merits of the human story and any allegorical message. It was simply an advocation of a willing suspension of disbelief.
My comment was not intended to insult, but to get you guys to break off the argument. It was meant as subtle jibe to point out that Fanwank factor seven had been exceeded.

As a complete aside ...( 1 month ago by VampireYoshi)
As a complete aside, I've always felt that the Borg temporal strategy was COMPLETELY unnecessary. One Borg cube, in the second (movie) battle, took on an armada that was saved solely by Picard's actions. If the Borg would only send, say, TEN cubes...end of the Federation by sheer firepower.
But then, that would mean that excessively humanistic liberalism doesn't win out in the end, and the writers simply Will Not Accept that reality.

Spartan12222 has a point so does VampireYoshi. It seemed a bit strange that only ONE cube was sent in the second movie to attack. Well 2 because it has a sphere inside that ejected and that wasn't very useful anyway... the Enterprise snuck up on it and blew it out the sky in a manner of seconds. Oh well, plenty where that came from. :)

What "new, heavily armed starship class" are they referring to?
