Bill plays music from such a deep place. It's just really honest music.

Two of my favorite musicians: Dylan and Frisell. And this time Bill's playing a Thinline Telecaster. I recall Frisell saying that "Blonde and Blonde" changed his life: we're all the better for that, I think. Deep, poetic, brooding, and critically joyous music. (The tune, of course, is from acoustic Bob.)

Bill sounds like "In a Silent Way". He has that sound that puts you in the driver's seat on the back country road in the middle of the night. Nothin but trucks and headlights. . .

Bill is the best guitarist around right now, I think. I really love the playing of guys like Metheny, Scofield, Rosenwinkel, Loueke and other guys who are making waves, but there's something about Bill's sound. The way he uses space and his interpretation and phrasing of melody are unlike anything I've encountered.
Go buy the new album 'History, Mystery' right now. If 'A Change Is Gonna Come' doesn't move you, there's no hope.

I agree with you in every way...Frisell makes the guitar have a sound no one else can command...
What I really like ...( 2 months ago by elguitaro)
What I really like about him, especially talking about sound, is his ability to control and use effects pedals tastefully. That's a hard thing to do, and a lot of guitarists don't appreciate the effort you have to make with pedals in order to keep your tone and also use the pedals to your advantage.

I've been digging that album and that song, as well, recommending it to absolutely everybody. And the version of Baba Drame on that is excellent as well.

Just to let you know, your sensibility crosses the Atlantic.
I'm a fan of Miles and Dylan - but "In a Selective Way".
The despair you allude to, however, I think, is pretty universal.. Keep on truckin'

this is genius, beautiful. for fans of creepy (and creeping) americana/frisell influenced doom music, check out the band EARTH with Dylan Carlson. Frisell played on their last album. Superb stuff.
