For one, most top 40 acts dont TRY to be juvenile and banal, they just are. Phish actually strives for absurdity and since they are such accomplished musicians they are able to get away with it. Besides, phish are muscians, not poets and should be listened to as such. Personally I think their lyrics are original, atmospheric, and pretty funny at times.

I can accept that, musicians not poets thing. Kind of like technicians--Eddie Van Halen is such a technician. I've never been that impressed with his songwriting, but his technique is peerless.

what makes me sad is that i don't think trey can't hit the high notes that he used to. It happens, but nonetheless it sucks. I absolutly love this song though

Seems like yesterday living in Boston (college) and sliding over to Paradise, down to the Living Room, and up to The Front in Burlap, among other venues. At 19 y.o. I remember thinking: these guys are nuts!!! But they grew on ya! And everything comes full circle. Drove by the Coventry site the other day and a big smile appeared on my face. To paraphrase the immortal Jerry Garcia: what a loooooong strange trip it was!!

I know what you're saying (I think). With so many Phish fans it's about trying to be cool. A fan should judge with their ears first. If music sounds good, then it is good, and it doesn't matter how many other people like it or don't like it.

If you are listening to Phish for the quality of Trey's voice I would suggest that you are missing the best part of the band, anyways. Don't get me wrong, I love the guy, but he has never been a very good singer. And I would suggest especially when he is trying to stretch his register high.
