A missile with thrust vectoring guided by a helmet mounted targeting system. That's pretty fracking cool! Put that on the Raptors and you will double its lethality!!!

why are they sometimes yelling "fox" and "fox one" then suddenly "fox two"? aren't those all aim9x?

It refers to which missle number they are on. First is Fox 1, Fox 2 is number 2 etc. Easier than saying I just fired my second missile.
Actually, the Fox ...( 5 months ago by Timmayx)
Actually, the Fox codes refer to the type of missile fired.
Fox 1 = Semi-active radar guided missile (AIM7)
Fox2 = Infrared guided missile (AIM-9, as in this video)
Fox 3 = Active radar guided missile (AIM-120)

Should put a couple rear firing rounds on B-52/B-1B imo, as well as F-15D/E.

Yes. the biggets clue is the title of the video ;)
The AIM-9x is basically the most advanced version of the sidewinder. Doubt they can do much more with it now apart from making it's electronics even more sensitive.

If the F-22 works as advertised, it won't get close enough for sidewinders.
Unlike the ...( 4 months ago by bujoun76)
Unlike the brain-dead US government, that wants to cut the F-22, the Air Force is thinking 20 to 30 years in the future when other countries will deploy stealth fighters too. Then it's back to visual range fighting all over again!
I don't put much ...( 4 months ago by jbandre09)
I don't put much stock in that man. Given that we have been developing stealth technology for 30 years or so, I'd wager that we have also been developing a means by which to detect it. Think about it. What would you do? I doubt any other nation will even have decent stealth in that time frame anyway. Remember, this sort of thing is expensive. The export F-35s also aren't nearly as stealthy as not just the F-22, but the domestic F-35.

In war, there will always be countermeasures of countermeasures ect! Ofcourse stealth will be overcome (LIDAR) by potential enemies, in time, and good old dogfighting will make a comeback. Evertime engineers thought dogfighting was over fighter pilots ended up doing it again and again! Many American pilots died in the early years of the Vietnam war. They also thought dogfighting was over! In the first Iraq war F-15's had to dogfight MIG-29's and MIG-25's. It's best to be prepared in any case.

I agree if both sides have stealth aircraft then it is back to visual range combat and maybe even back to classic dogfighting.
Russia has been making strides in stealthy fighters and UAVs.
Though a UAV could be killed by homing in on it's sat uplink signal a manned fighter this wouldn't always be an option.

russians have developed the ways to detect stealth already.
Elint/Vega series of radars for example (electronic detection), Anti-radiation missiles (R-27R) or simply very powerful radars.
