Kanye West mourning the death of his mother
Hello, I'm Rebecca Field with a UPI entertainment update on this Tuesday, November 13, 2007.
Kanye West is thanking the public for their support following the death of his mother. A Los Angeles coroner says Donda West died Saturday from complications stemming from a recent surgery. She was 58. Some reports say it was from a cosmetic operation.but there's no word on what type or where she was treated. West was a big supporter of her son and also managed his career for a while. The rapper often referred to his Mom in his lyrics...he even wrote a song inspired by her called "Hey Mama."
Hollywood couple Brooke Burke and her fiance David Charvet are expecting another baby. The actress' rep tells People magazine the new addition will come sometime next spring. The pair already have a daughter named Heaven Rain...born last January. Burke also has 2 daughters from a previous relationship. She and Charvet have been together since 2005.
Actor Richard Gere is being recognized for his h umanitarian work. Last night he received the 2007 Marian Anderson Award in Philidelphia. The honor is given to those who not only entertain the public, but also do a substantial amount of work improving society. Gere was chosen because of his support for the Independence of Tibet and his work with H IV and AIDS patients. Last night's ceremony featured performances by big stars like Patti Labelle and the Philadelphia Orchestra.
Stars are gearing up for the release of the newest Stephen King horror film. The author hit the red carpet in New York last night for the big screen adaptation of his no vel "The Mist." King was joined by members of the cast like Thomas Jane, Marcia Gay Harden and Laurie Holden. "The Mist" is about a strange storm that brings a frightening blood hungry species to earth. It hits most U.S. theaters November 21.
Several celebrities are using their star power for publi c advocacy.
Actors like Ben Affleck, Reese Witherspoon and Morgan Freeman are just a few of the big names appearing in a recently debuted public service announcement on healthcare reform. The campaign is reportedly sponsored by AARP and seeks affordable health-care for all Americans.
