bmda106- All parties change occasionally in line with developments and what concerns people. If a policy isn't working, it makes sense to change it. Its called politics. And I don't know what brainwashing you are referring to. The LD have given the other parties credit when they agree. I don't think everything about the our opposition is bad and I certainly don't think we are perfect. And just what has Hitler or the nazis got to do with the Lib Dems? Come of it!
bmda- No, that is ... ( 4 months ago by CULAVE)
bmda- No, that is down to you being very naive. I opposed the war from the very start. I watch the media regularly and I watched the PM as well. Why wasn't I brainwashed? As for the Lib Dems being far too tolerant, I would agree. On some issues they are.
ok, ill come out ... ( 4 months ago by bmda106)
ok, ill come out and say it.. but ur not going to like it. the liberals claim that they they are the opposite to the nazis.. but when u really look hard at it, you are virtually the same in every way that counts. your popular with young votes. differnt ideas to traditional values. nd many of ur policies are identical. and whenever someone, eg the bnp have a peaceful march its always broken up by liberal thugs. cnt u see the similarities?? so many of ur supporters are such hypocrits

well perhaps at the time i was naive, i was very yound and new to politics. but ur party represent to me a blindness to the past, and ur reforms just strengthen this belief. most ppl in britian today believe britian to last forever, and that we are immune from change. history teaches other lessons, that the over tolerant always fall. this is why the lib dems will be the end of britian. i challange you to read early british or roman history and tell me im wrong
Are you a BNP ... ( 4 months ago by CULAVE)
Are you a BNP activist? If you are, you can hardly lecture anyone else on fascism. And it may interest you to know that the local Lib Dem MP in Oxford stuck up for the right of Nick Griffin to speak- even though he strongly disagreed. And as the Liberals are the oldest establishment in British politics, they are hardly anti-tradition.

im not any type of activist. im a student, and the local lib dem mp in oxford only defended nick griffin because it would be hypocracy infront of the media to bann free speech to a lecture on free speech. you openly say the lib dems are changing, so how can you then say you represent the oldest establishment in politics if you are not the same as you always were?
bmda106- I think if ... ( 4 months ago by CULAVE)
bmda106- I think if he didn't want Nick Griffin to speak he would have said so. The change I refer to is the change from fifty years of Labour- Tory let-downs, in order to re-establish tradition. I have said what I feel I need to say. If I won't convince you the Lib Dems aren't what you think they are, im not going to try.
well then tell me ... ( 4 months ago by bmda106)
well then tell me what they are and ill let you know on that. all i know is that ive just searched for hitlers 25 points and 7 of them are very similar to the liberals. i consider myself neutral in politics, and i am curious to how u would respond to my arguemnt, and that from a neutral perspective, it is very hypocritical to label the far rights facist when it seems that the liberals bear far more similarities

of course they're democratic samdung...why would you say they aren't? is this a specific issue you're referring to?
bmda: 2 big ... ( 2 months ago by rachthegreat2)
bmda: 2 big differences: libs are pro-individual freedom; nazis believe the masses should be subservient to a ruling elite. libs believe in rationalism, progress, human goodness and democracy; fascists believe in political myth, warfare, human weakness and dictatorship. MOST ideologies (including the nazis) share SOME factors e.g. community. This is unavoidable, & it's the differences u must look at. for more info, read 'Political Ideologies' by Heywood. Trust me, i'm a politics student.

I take it you are one of Nick Clegg's conquests?
well, not ... ( 2 months ago by rachthegreat2)
well, not especially. i do like him as a politician, but some of the policies they've dropped do annoy me. i was just fairly horrified that anyone could be so politically ignorant as to suggest they are a) like nazis, or b) undemocratic. and your comment was just a bit...unjustified? without the power of the civil service and government cash, of course there's a certain impotency now. but if we have a hung parliament after the next election? a coalition isn't the most unlikely option.
I think you'll find ... ( 2 months ago by YorkshireDaz)
I think you'll find it was bmda106 who compared the Lib Dems with the Nazis. I was merely stating my opinion that the Libs couldn't run a bath. An opinion that was seemingly reflected throughout the UK as they got right royally shafted by the electorate on Thursday. Maybe now they'll stop referring to themselves as the "Shadow Cabinet" and show a little humility.
im well aware it ... ( 2 months ago by rachthegreat2)
im well aware it was bmda106, i was just explaining my slew of comments...and the may 1st results were definitely a tory victory, but lib dems improved from last year, statistically by a great amount, and now appear to stand a chance of entering coalition, having forced labour into third place in terms of percentage of the vote. besides, its not a party's job to show humility. its to scrutinize government, so calling themselves the shadow cabinet is obv a good idea...
and the concept ... ( 2 months ago by rachthegreat2)
and the concept that they cannot run a bath is just as unquantified and unjustified as saying they cannot cut cake. it just sounds like prejudice from where i'm standing, because you're just throwing around insults without reasons.
Insults or not, I ... ( 2 months ago by YorkshireDaz)
Insults or not, I stand by what I say, and my opinions are based on first-hand experience of Liberal Democrat Ccouncillors and the spin & deception they employ. Calling themselves the Shadow Cabinet is not a good idea, it's dishonest. This title is reserve for the official opposition. I could start calling myself Brad Pitt, but it wouldn't mean that I became him. As for Libs scrutinising the government, don't make me laugh. Apart from their opposition to the Iraq war they're just NewLabour-lite!
you wish... the lib ... ( 2 months ago by rachthegreat2)
you wish... the lib dems are far more pro-reform than the labour party, and they want proportional representation as a priority. they have set targets on green issues, unlike our government who do nothing but endless consultation, and the tories (who ill be so bold as to guess you support), who will put a chauffeur driven car behind their cycling leader. THAT is deception for you.
What are you saying ... ( 2 months ago by YorkshireDaz)
What are you saying, that he should have cycled through London with all his important documents strapped to the handlebars? Come on Rach, is that the best you can come up with? You can't attack him on policy so you mention that old chestnut about his chauffeur driving behind him. The fact is that Cameron's got you lot well & truly rattled, that's why you fired the old guy and replaced him with "Cameron wanabee" Nick Clegg. And yes, Tory and proud!! Have been for 15 years.
meh, i just find ... ( 2 months ago by rachthegreat2)
meh, i just find the bicycle example amusing, im not for an instant suggesting its cameron's most serious problem...(grin) it just shows though that tories arent THAT into green issues, i think... and i was never a ming supporter. its a shame, but he just wasn't leadership material. i also believe nick clegg has been misunderstood on a range of isues he talked about (though i was more of a huhne supporter, but thats neither here nor there). tory policy: wealth for the wealthy, dirt for the poor.
I must protest. " ... ( 1 week ago by MrsWhitehouseOnline)
I must protest. "Liberal Democrats" and "Cutting Crime" do not go together.
Such a party would turn HM's fine prisons into wards staffed by "Psychologists", with the aim of discovering and fixing the wrongs of society: clearly the reason for the behaviour of the individual. Of course, any sensible party would bring forth legislation whereby the criminal spends the rest o
f his squandered life on the treadmill or, failing that, is questioned as to what his height, weight and build is...
