They always had such beautiful running edges, an incredibly athletic yet graceful stroking technique, fluid handholds, and seamless choreography. They made the difficult look easy and in my books, this free dance is a masterpiece.

Show of jealousy (hope that's not what T&D are feeling) and personal attack. Not a word of of substance. "Ironic" that G&P won Olympic gold twice?! What an insult to the majority figure skating professionals and fans. Everybody has preference, still, be respectful to others.

jjan2007 - your point is clear, you don't have to write it trice. It's nothing to do with jealousy, I didn't compete against G&P or T&D. Don't think you can speak for the majority of FS pros and fans - I know plenty of fans and even pros, who think U&Z should've won the 1994 Olys. Which should take nothing away from G&P, who were a great pair, maybe the best of them all technically, and fully deserved their 1998 gold.

As for substance - I absolutely don't like the choreography and the outfits, which I find distasteful - yes,it is subjective, but ultimately I only find three dances G&P made memorable, Tango and Quickstep ODs and one of their early exhibitions, Zorba the Greek. Each of T&D's dances was for me a work of art, every move attuned to the music. But technically this FD is definitely in a class of its own.

It's what I liked about Grishuk & Platov though. They had just enough expression without making it too over-the-top (like Krylova & Ovsiannikov). The emphasis is on the technical aspect of the sport which is something I appreciate.

From 1988 till the end of eligible carrier 1998, Pasha never lost any of competition, received a record number in history of the highest marks - 6.0 in the period from 1994 to 1998 and setting new standards for artistic beauty and technical in ice dancing. Pasha has won a record of Gold Medals (total 26), become the only Lady in sport history to receive Olympic Gold Medals Two Times one after other in 1994 and the other in 1998! She is in the Guinness Book with that success. And I love her :)

What's the point of comparing this program with Bolero?
Both Torvill/Dean and Grishuk/Platov are the best ice skaters ever. I personally prefer the Russians but I don't write things like Bolero is a cheap version of anything. Because I can recognise the technique and difficulty of both programs, and this is not subjective. The subjective part is how they make you feel, and this program made me cry. Maybe it doesn't touch you as Bolero but it doesn't mean this is worse.

I guess the single rhythm theme with blue costumes struck me as 'Bolero-like' too, but the structure and overall feel of the programs are nothing alike. Actually, this dance is structured like a typical Tarasova program, where the lady is going nuts with difficulty and the man supports her. I can understand why this was done when she worked with Bestemianova & Bukin, but Platov was in every way Grischuk's technical equal so I don't understand it. This is good, but IMO their best is their 1993 FD

The elements are largely linked by progressives and crossovers, which I'm not crazy about, but the speed generated by those makes how she gets into and out of the elements near unbelievable. I think they skated this program better at Euros and the GPF, they left out a few things that I liked about the choreography in what looked like minor mishaps. Though in a way, I guess that is a testament to just how fast everything is moving here.

I disagree somewhat. Most programs are linked by progressives and crossovers but what I liked about this one was that they were minimized. What made this program difficult was not the footwork but how all the elements were linked with little set-up time. As for Platov, I actually think he's technically stronger that Grishuk in some ways (his edges for example). Platov was very much a Dubova skater while Grishuk was very much a Linichuk skater (incredible agility and turning ability).

That's a much better way of explaining the construction, because unless you look as something like Anissina & Peizerat's Carmina Burana almost everything is linked that way. It's the in between footwor this doesn't have, which they usually had tons of and did amazingly well. You are right on with the short set up time you would never notice the missing elements if you didn't see other performances: the whole thing moves THAT quickly!
