Heres what happened:
Devdas and Paro were childhood friends, and their frienship eventually turned into love. However, Devdas's mom refuses to let them get married b/c Paro is of a lower class. Paro gets married to an old guy w/grown kids. In short, Devdas goes crazy and starts staying w/Chandramukthi, a prostitute, who takes care of him. Paro hears about this and invites Chandramukthi to dance with her b/c she is touched by her care for Devdas. Thats when this song happens.

I've always liked the dancing in this movie. It's unlike anything I've ever seen. It's beautiful.
Interesting Facts:
During filming of the movie, Aishwarya Rai (Paro) was required to wear very heavy earrings which made her ears bleed throughout production. In several of the scenes, it was said that her ears were bleeding.
The woman who played Chandhramutki was 3 months pregnant prior to filming. In fact, if you watch the 1st dance scene, you can see her belly. She was 4 1/2 months along

While rearranging the set for a scene, there were fans that were being moved about. As one of the crew members was moving the fan, it turned on, decapitating one and severely injuring another. Aishwarya was covered with blood and was in extreme shock. She was cared for by her then boyfriend, Salman Khan.
