In later years she mostly spoke her songs but this reminds us she was indeed a strong singer. And she certainly knew how to do a show.

Does anyone know anything more about this song? Is there a grammophone or even CD recording of it? Who wrote it? Where could one find the lyrics? etc...

I can see why she was so popular. She was singing the same songs as Bessie Smith, but they let her play the top theaters, unlike poor Bessie Smith who died because they wouldn't even admit her to a segregated hospital after she was critically injured in an auto accident.

Sophie Tucker was jewish, if she had lived in Europe a more crual fate was waiting her than a refusal at a segregated hospital, so everything is relative.

In the twilight of her years she appeared in a TV interview. She was introduced as having her name in lights since the time theatres first had lights! To the best of my knowledge, her first recordings were 2-minute wax cylinders made for Edison.

I hope so, but it was being taught as fact in public schools in the mid 1970s. Do you have any particulars about the circumstances to offer so I could refute anyone else who was taught the same thing I was?
