One other thing: airplanes might be modified to "beat" the system by some sort of ablative or mirroring surface, this device might not have enough charge stored at once to do real damage to an aircraft, and on top of that they might be able to fly above its effective range.

Airplane's won't be modified to beat a high energy laser anytime soon. Their isn't any ablative coating and a "mirror" surface won't do anything lol. A mirror doing anything to a laser is just Sci-fi. If this system's works the same way as the ABL, which is almost for sure does tracking wise. It is counting on the laser being reflected back because that is how it calculates speed and distance. No airplane could survive a megawatt-class laser beam.

Mirror's won't do shit and a reflective coating will only reduce it's effectiveness somewhat (this has already been stated by Northrop Grumman). Let's just say you are correct and that a Mirror reflects 100% of the Laser. The light from the Laser shoot's in all direction's it won't shoot back at the laser system. It's like using a mirror to reflect sun light and shine it somewhere else.

IM NOT USING A FUCKING PARABOLIC MIRROR HERE BUDDY. light can only travel in straight lines, so when it hits the mirror, the photons arenet going to scatter into a million directions, they will only do that if they hit a parabolic or rounded mirror, the photons will reflect of at the same angle they came in on ( by that i mean, if the light hits at a 45 degree angle , it will go off at a 45 degree angle on the other side).i now know that a mirror is not effective in defense against a laser.
