Just read the book STAN by Fred Lawerence Guiles.
This very taped and dinner party is discussed near the end.
I wanted to come to youtube to match the stories with some footage.

My grandfather ...( 2 weeks ago by archeronfoot)
My grandfather actually saw these two kings live when they came to Stans (and his) home town of Ulverston, England. Its the dinkiest little town and EVERYONE turned out to see them arrive. Far from being two big shot stars they started the bump and stumble routine for the crowds and kept it up for ages. The old man said it was completely natural and the best thing that ever happened there. Try getting that kind of spontaneity these days

They didn't know much better in those days, the link hadn't quite been made between smoking and bad health. No excuse these days of course.

My goodness. Oliver ...( 5 days ago by Thesurus01)
My goodness. Oliver looks half the man he used to be. Stan looks in very bad health.
It's kind of sad comparing the last moments of their life off screen to the partnership and comedic genius they performed on screen. But they still look happy so thats a bit of redemption.
RIP Oliver Hardy 1892 - 1957 - Stan laurel 1890 - 1965

I was a teenager when this film was made. There was a story in the paper at that time about a local kid who wrote to Stan and got an answer.
I was amazed to find out they were still living.

A friend of mine ...( 2 days ago by PLEEMHEAD7)
A friend of mine traveled to the USA in the early sixties and went on a "Stars Homes" tour in Beverly Hills , at one point the tour guide told everyone to get off the bus and wave at this particular window in an apartment block, Stan Laurel appeared on the balcony and waved back, it really made his holiday. I believe he was in the Hollywood phone book up until his death, just anyone could ring him up. The films they made are timeless and will always be watched and laughed at.

Thanks for posting this Laurel and Hardy farewell. To me they were the funniest comedy duo that ever graced the silver screen. I laughed at their antics when I was a child and still do today. Their comedy is timeless. Also, thank you Hal Roach for teaming Laurel and Hardy together. It was an excellent decision.
