Obama WILL cause shit to get worse.
And honestly we may end up with another JFK, as in an assassination.
This is such a weak ...( 1 month ago by kamak894)
This is such a weak ad, primarily because Obama rejecting the death penalty is neither going to bring the victims back, but neither is the death penalty a major part of preventing the conditions that lead to these kinds of wrongs.
Obama neither specifically wronged anyone nor displayed a disinterest in saving future lives in this comercial. What a waste of time this ad was!!!
The state of ...( 1 month ago by eigudttam)
The state of political campaigning in the USA is disappointing and sad. Especially regarding this add. First, the death penalty has rarely solved problems so assuming weakness is questionable, and two, drawing a connection between gang violence and international terrorism, an issue of questionable importance with voters, is a stretch as it insults the American people's intelligence. Obama is the first candidate since JFK to unite a nation in hope rather than fear. That, constitutes Trust
I agree. Canada ...( 1 month ago by eigudttam)
I agree. Canada realized long ago that the death penalty doesn't fix problems. It takes a true leader to bring this idea to a country such as the USA. If anything, this demonstrates strength, not weakness. I find it sad that the people responsible for this add believed the American people would be fooled so easily. Facts both taken and interpreted out of context demonstrates desperation and pessimism, two things America actually can't trust.
So this was kind of ...( 1 month ago by PBUchel)
So this was kind of a weak swipe at Obama. His being "soft" on gangs (soft meaning giving them the death penalty) has nothing to do with terrorism. It's sad that anti-liberals--conservatives, racists, whoever--see the only possible punishment for anyone wronging anyone is death. It's plain stupidity to compare gangs (or what a newspaper called, "urban terrorism") and terrorists worldwide.

Tells quite a story about a candidate that we are supposed to believe in just because he stands up and promises hope and change??? How could anyone trust this big city politician? What we do know about him is never good.

well PBUchel, by not using the death penalty on gang members that have committed murder, you are preserving their rights to live. and im sorry if i offend you liberals, but if you murder somebody because of some stupid ass gang, youve lost all rights in my book.
I agree with you ...( 2 weeks ago by PBUchel)
I agree with you when you say that gang members lose rights because of a stupid gang thing where someone ends up dead. That beyond dispute. But they don't lose ALL of their rights, even the Constitution sees that. But what if a jealous wife kills her husband? Or two friends argue about money and shoot it out? Does the same rule apply? Should we just kill the killers, whoever they are? I earnestly pray that's not the case. As Americans, we need to be better than that slippery and barbaric slope.

Just so everyone involved is aware, there are a million reasons why politicians vote down bills, look up rider in google and look for the legal terminology once. Until you understand the lawmaking process, which most of you don't. You really shouldn't listen to ads like this as it will cloud your little minds.

I totally agree with this ad! Obama should be forced to go into shoddy neighborhoods and fight these people with his bare hands!
Honestly, this is the dumbest attack on Obama yet. Terrorism is more of a paranoia for Americans than anything.

absolutely!!! that should be a reason why people DONT commit crime, becuase of the consequences. weve become too sympathetic to the criminals in this country, and thats part of the reason there is so much of it.
I agree that ...( 1 week ago by PBUchel)
I agree that America has become far too sympathetic to criminals. But when we attack a politician who probably saw this case as a slippery slope, I just ask, where does it stop? Punishment and the death penalty is SUPPOSED to be a deterrent. But it is definitely not supposed to be the answer for any and all killers. Besides, I think it's a bit dramatic and overreaching of this ad to compare pathetic neighborhood thugs to worldwide, hate-filled terrorists.
ok PB, then i ask ...( 5 days ago by LexSteele51)
ok PB, then i ask you, but why? the neighborhood thugs are the filth of this nation. They are part of the few only things keeping this nation from being completely civilized. Its those people who are making things so much more difficult, and those people who divert our attention from the hate-filled terrorists who are trying to kill us at any cost. If they arent part of the solution, theyre part of the problem
I agree, these ...( 5 days ago by PBUchel)
I agree, these people are the filth of the nation and they are part of the problem. But what's really keeping us from being civilized? The isolated gangs made up of punk kids and drug lords who kill to make their points? Or the government of a nation or a state declaring that they will use the same tactic-though it's more organized and "humane"-of killing to make their respective point? I'm not defending them, please know that. I just see this "eye-for-an-eye" justice as a slippery slope.
ok well then your ...( 5 days ago by LexSteele51)
ok well then your choice would be to put them in prison i assume. and if so, do you have any idea how much money it costs to imprison somebody for life? It costs $50 for a person in jail. If you do the math, its hundreds of millions of dollars A DAY to go through that process, furthuring our money problem. So i ask you, is it really worth it to second guess the feelings and rights of MURDERERS who dont care about the feelings and rights of the people they killed...and pay a FOURTUNE to do so?
Prison doesn't do ...( 5 days ago by PBUchel)
Prison doesn't do anything. It just becomes a hotel for these type of career criminals. Death row is just as costly. Years and years of appeals leave these criminals sitting there, so we'd still be paying for them anyway. And, all people have rights no matter what-this country was founded on that. In the ideal world, public humiliation is the quickest way to have these gang members change. However, that punishment is rare. Murder is murder. Whether from the state or a gang. Theres no perfect way
ok thats fine, but ...( 5 days ago by LexSteele51)
ok thats fine, but Public Humiliation would never fly in our country with all the Political correctness being the way it is. But the only reason these CRIMINALS are sitting for longer than needed is because people are appealing in a superfluous manner because they are soooo up in arms about their rights. Which is absolutely wrong, and it costs us money in the process.
Absolutely. But if ...( 5 days ago by PBUchel)
Absolutely. But if you go too far in either direction, you lose our democracy and checks and balances system. On one hand, you can say, "Off with their heads!" but you'd also take away the same liberty previous Americans fought for. Or, you can be soft on all criminals, wish them well, and hope they don't take our country down to something vile. No answer is fair enough. Thus, we compromise the best we can. Which I believe is the reason Obama voted against expanding the death penalty to gangs.

woah woah woah, i dont think previous Americans fought for the liberty of criminals that would tear the nation apart by the seams. They fought for those who would be faithful to their country, not the trash that Barack Obama believes in keeping alive
The Founders of ...( 5 days ago by PBUchel)
The Founders of this country fought for liberty of all people who are created equal. Actions of Americans in those days were seen as criminal by the British. Once they created this country, they established certain laws to preserve one's liberty, especially when a criminal: Habeas corpus, 5th Amendment, etc. As a professor of Constitutional Law at the U. of Chicago, I'm sure Obama recognized that, by American creed, all people are endowed with inalienable rights. Whether we like it or not.
I most certainly ...( 5 days ago by LexSteele51)
I most certainly agree that they are endowed with inalienable rights, before during and after the crime. they have the rights to due process and a fair trial. But when committers of heinous crimes are given too much leway and too much forgiveness for their unnecessary action, it tears this country apart by its social morays and economics. It is not that unbelievably difficult to be a law-abiding citizen, so why are we so soft on these rediculous aspects of our society?
but there are two ...( 4 days ago by LexSteele51)
but there are two choices in solving this problem. and the path that Obama chooses is the more soft of the two. and in doing so, Obama makes no strong point against urban crime
