Why do some people still keep doing analog photography? Well, go to a High end Hifi Store and compare CD, SACD , FLAC and Vinyl! I did and I chose to go back to vinyl.

yes i know, audio quality and price. but with a pair of good noise canceling earphones and an undamaged mp3 file, the audio quility is just as good or even better than vinyl. im not saying vinyl isn't cool, i think its interesting,
The audio quality ... ( 2 months ago by rittersoftlan)
The audio quality of an MP3 can NEVER be as good as a good vinyl record just as a JPEG photo can never be as good as a real oil painting. An mp3 can trick your ear, depending on the style of music, but to the trained ear the difference is obvious. You may like the sound of mp3s just like some people may like digital art better than for example oil paintings. But the more acoustic instruments come into play, the more obvious the difference!

explain the pop and crackle sound you get from them? i cannot handle it! lol it drives me insane
I can understand ... ( 2 months ago by rittersoftlan)
I can understand that. Maybe it's easier to tolerate if one, like me, grew up with that :D, but nonetheless, i listened for 15 years to digital music only and now i find it's easier for me to live with a pop and a crackle here and there than listen to the digital sound.(most of it) But I admit, it makes Vinyl an expensive hobby, because you have to look for records in mint condition. Then, you have hardly any noises.

That was interesting! - I say Vinly does have a better sound, however if your using cds and the music is in wav format then the sound is more or less just as good.. technically though, the sound is better on a vinyl because its analog (natural) sound.

well your right there but you cant compare an oil painting to a JPEG because they are completly different you would have to compare an old polaroid to a JPEG
.... depends on ... ( 2 months ago by rittersoftlan)
.... depends on your turntable :) - i admit the comparison to the oil painting is a little to far, that would almost be like comparing it to a live - concert. Let's compare it to a good old analog camera - you can enlarge the prints as much as you like and you dont get those artifacts - that means you can listen to the details and more important: they are there! and not compressed or antialiased or whatever..... and it's not all rgb or 0 or 1, i think you get my point.

There's a difference between the two. Digital audio is small, short samples of audio in a long sequence, and the human ear is complex enough to physically hear these small spaces of soundlessness between each tiny clip. Analog audio features none of the aforementioned clippings, it's the vibration, which all music is composed of, in its purest form. Instead of synthesising the vibration, a turntable creates it off of a record. That's why vinyl's better.
Generally, I'm on ... ( 1 month ago by raphaelfaunus)
Generally, I'm on the opposite end of the spectrum when it comes to analog photography. The human eye, unlike the ear, isn't very complex -- It can take a single image and only see the apparent details, and it can't quite focus any better. If the eye focuses, it loses other details, unlike the ear, which catches everything even while focused. Digital imagery is best, but analog audio is just the same.

The human ear is too tricky, sometimes you hear things that just aren't there
I agree with you. ... ( 4 weeks ago by TobiasNeverNude)
I agree with you. On the upside, a lot of people who buy vinyl purchase it used, which is a great thing. Less waste, and it reduces the need for more pressings. Also, pvc is used primarily in construction materials, and although it would be great to make high fidelity music without negative environmental repercussions, I doubt the production of records contributes significantly to the overall detrimental effects of pvc useage. I am aware that it is an problem, but there are more urgent issues.

Dont forget, that vinyls are pressed from digital. The "original" recording is digital to begin with (in most cases), then is pressed onto vinyl.
