not only did they stop being good when hackett left but much of the stuff was just plain bad. happily hackett and gabriel have filled they void with some sublime albums over the last 30 odd years.

I did want to include Watcher of the Skies, Los Endos, Dance on a Volcano, Giant Hogweed and others but, we're limited to 10.And really with a few exceptions (Suppers Ready), it's hard to say that I like any one more than any others. Although I'm less fond of their post- And Then There Were Three stuff opposed to their pre-Three stuff.

I like your being gratefull about Hacket and Gabriel solo pursuits.
Also, in my un-educated opinion, how long do bands typically stay collectively inspired and on the same page and sort of reading each others minds and all that? We are left with some seriously beautiful musical memories. And whatever happened to Genesis without Gabriel and Hackett matters as much to me as whatever happened to Cyndy Lauper.

I am just thinking ... ( 6 days ago by mikolasa)
I am just thinking about how forward thinking and adventurous all this music was then, and I hope we don't take their collective genius for granted. There is something magic about a performance that is not 100% perfect. The newer shows are almost too perfect. Phil's drumming is great here and it is not over-emphasized. Steve and Mike are very focused and there melodies and harmonies are superbly creative and not overdone either. I would certainly put this song in a top 10 list.

Hmmm - I thought this lyric was supposed to be tongue-in-cheek sarcasm. He says that "like the sea he raged" and "like the earth he gave" and there is in fact more earth than sea (in other words - he's is admitting his failings (ie he raged a hell of a lot more in his lifetime than he gave!).
