Nope! : ) The "stomach drop" comes from picking up a lot of speed really fast. Like when you are on a roller coaster, you are at an almost dead before you accelerate.
When you skydive, you're jumping out of a plane that is traveling at 100 miles an hour. You will pick up to terminal velocity, which is 120 mph. Unless you fall in a position that allows you to break terminal velocity and move faster (like arrow dive- which is only for experienced divers) you don't feel anything.

Really? What type of plane did you jump from? I did my first tandem from a Cessna and felt nothing but wind. I've used several different types since being licensed, mainly otters.
I can only imagine a big stomach drop from a helicopter or balloon- maybe a very slow moving aircraft. It could very well be a psychological thing too, although I haven't looked into it much.
Normal, healthy divers shouldn't feel a large drop, so it's nothing to be concerned with for those looking at diving. : )

sometimes you're just not ready. i couldn't do a viaduct abseil when i was 18, bottled it, had to walk down the long way. i'm 39 now and recently started climbing, including abseiling off things. good on the guy for going back, it would've bothered him for ages had he not found the stuff, and got past the fear.

Did my second jump yesterday and it was better than the first (and that one was damn awesome). Plan to jump every 30 days from now on. Wish me well in that area*! The guy is A HERO because he freaked so badly but CAME BACK! Kudos to the guy below for overcoming climbing fears! Facing our fears free us from defeat. ONLY SUGGESTION: I would have CHUGGED a tall drink instead of sipping a martini. WTF mate? :P

I will second jojobutterball's opinion that you should not feel a drop from skydiving out of an airplane. The one time I tandem jumped, we were flying at 90 mph, and the pilot banked the plane to the right, and we went tumbling out in the sky. I only knew that we were out because of the wind, and the change in view, but not from the feeling of falling. Interestingly, I feel that I am falling when I jump from a 6+ feet high wall. So, tandem skydiving is a relatively serene sport.
