Well she does have a big number of hits. She's definitely in the top 15 or so. The thing is that she has done TONS of movies which all add up to the total gross. In the ranking I was referring to, only movies that are considered a hit or beyond are counted. Average or below aren't, but in reality, they all do add up to the total boxoffice gross.

Thanks so much for the information. It's odd cause in the new list you just provided in terms of total gross, Asha isn't on the list even though I've read that she has been in the most number of Bollywood films & hits. These rankings are always so fascinating to me (I still love to see that Hema & Zeenat are still in the top 10 as well in terms of gross).Is there any way you could provide a link or maybe tell me where I could go to find more information about this? Asha is number 11 in terms of total gross, so not that far away. Also whether a movie is a hit or not depends on the its budget and the money it returns. Say 2 movies A & B. A is made with a low budget, but it grossed enough money to cover it's costs and get some benefit, then it's a hit. Movie B is a high budget movie, and say it collected more money than A, but the gross wasn't enough to cover the whole cost, it won't be considered a hit.

Yes, Amitabh and Hema are the main industry leaders at the box office. It's interesting to see that the top 10 for the ladies is mainly comprised of 70s actresses (which is my favorite era in films) and the 60s - with Hema, Zeenat, & Rekha from the 70s & Vyjayanthimala, Nargis, Waheeda, Mumtaz, Sadhana from before. Sri then representing the 80s & Madhuri the 90s. What # was Shashi Kapoor? He was in a number of giant hits, wasn't he?

Heck I don't see any of the actresses now even getting where Madhuri is to start with, and that's like 2/3 of Hema's total gross. no big deal on the highest grossing actors blah blah blah...there were many more talented actors who deserved to be in that list. For eg. Nargis, Nutan, Rakhee, Jaya Bhaduri etc. even Sridevi.
