I saw them on that tour as well at Wembley Arena, and I was thinking the same. About a year before that tour I was on a plane next to some guy who said his name was Trevor Rabin and he'd just joined YES! Tony Kaye (keyboards) was in the row behind us. Anyway, I think Rabin successfully answered any criticism that he wasn't able to fill Steve Howe's shoes. This solo was technically brilliant and showed that Rabin was every bit as good as Howe.

Totally. I always thought if he released some of the songs on that album with Yes they would have been hits. He really influenced a lot of the modern Yes sound and it is awesome. I wish he would do another solo album or get together with Yes again they were a fantastic combo.

I'd say they are both great in very different ways. Trevor is a better song writer.

Well, he has a cute butt, too. The perfect man.

His technique is great and also he is brilliant as a composer, but this solo is just a collection of tricks more than a song, it lacks of unity and shape.
Trevor is a ... ( 7 months ago by podiatron)
Trevor is a fantastic genius. It is a shame he does not tour. I saw him by himself at the TLA circa 1993 and he play everything from Can't Look Away and I was Blown Away. His pre 90125 album is very cool. It is his version of 90125. His guitar is so distinct but let us be serious the best guitar player on the PLANET no comparison to anyone really is John Petrucci..and if you don't know him then you are lucky because when you look him up and you should I have given you a great gift.

He could not improvise. Always did the same solo. Steve Howe is much more diverse. He mixes things up.

Trevor in my opinion just could not improvise when it came time for his solo spot. He always played Solly's Beard, which is this piece. He is a much better session musician. Steve Howe could test himself by not playing the same thing each show.

I saw him at the Yes reunion tour and his solo was different and it kicked the crap out of this solo.

HAH there are plenty of comparisons to john petrucci...technique is not everthing. there are a million asian kids on youtube that can play anything he can play, but to really create something timeless and original is true talent. dave gilmour isn't the best or even my favorite, but he's the perfect example of a guy who can play one note and say more than 10 steve vai albums combined

Don't ever compare Trev to Petrucci, thats an insult to Trev....
Are you kidding me? ... ( 6 months ago by podiatron)
Are you kidding me?? Trevor is my boy but Petrucci is faster and more dynamic and has won more guitar awards and makes his own guitars and plays a 7 string..get real listen to his liquid tension stuff

thats why he's bad, you know Trev is so much better.....

Trevor is just "the man"....no offense to all you Steve Howe fans. Both are genius in their own right. But, you can't credit Steve Howe with bringing Yes into the modern age like Trevor did. And boy am I glad he did! Go Trevor!!! Come back and play some shows (Maybe with Circa?) and do some non-movie recording/writing when you get a break from scoring films....PLEASE!!! :) For fans of the "Rabin Era" Yes....(and the early era too) check out Circa, Billy Sherwoods new band.

I agree. And plus, Rabin started becoming a fantastic prog-rocker along the way, developing some Howe-esque quality of his own. Listen to "Endless Dream" of Talk and you'll understand what I'm talking about.
I think that each ... ( 3 months ago by ahoog69)
I think that each member of YES came into (and out of ) the band when they were meant to; each brought what the band needed at that time. I had an opportunity to see Trevor at the Park West in Chicago for his last solo tour (1989); it was great! I truly wish he'd set aside scoring films for a bit and get back to his progressive rock roots (either with YES or on his own). C'mon Trevor, countless fans are waiting!!

Again to those who call the Rabin v Howe arguement......in a way Trevor Rabin represents (a certain dated 1980`s) modernity....but would it not be for Steve Howe that there was a modernity to aspire to?
Honestly... I've ... ( 2 weeks ago by quiddz)
Honestly... I've seen them both play (Howe/Rabin). Many have stated it before... Rabin was important in bringing a shattered 'Yes' back together in the 80's. But; let's be real, that wasn't really Yes music as it was Rabin music. Nobody that I know goes to see Yes now expecting to hear shit off the 90125 or Big Generator albums. Everyone goes to see the old stuff... from Fragile, CTTE, The Yes Album, Relayer, etc.,. no insult to Trev..he is phenomenal.. but sort of displaced with YES.
Rabin was awesome, ... ( 1 week ago by junior09252007)
Rabin was awesome, he came along at just the right time, MTV introduced YES to millions of young people. Rabin was just the right man for the then new music video era.
