I should rephrase and say I think that this cover/re-make of 'This Magic Moment' was sung by someone that sounds like Bob Dylan,or Tom Petty, but is most likely a group called "Cake".

Ben E. King and the Drifters may have the best version, but it is not "the original" since he/they didn't write it. The song was written by 2 Jewish guys from Brooklyn,
it was written by lyricist Doc Pomus and pianist Mort Shuman.

I think that although they dont wrote it, in that time that happened often, i mean, professional composers wrote songs all the time for several bands (a lot of the motowns) even "like a virgin" was not written by Madonna. So is ok if somebody says that the original is the drifters version, because it was wrote it for them, and all no-performer composer do it all the time, if you specify each case, you will never end.
Indeed many 50's and 60's bands didnt compose a song in all his career.
